Hi JaChrista, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As stated in my previous ATL Voyage article in 2022, my love and passion for makeup started at an early age. Not being allowed to wear makeup until the later years of high school made me a bit rebellious. My mom wasn’t having that—wearing makeup in the 9th and 10th grade? No ma’am. She wouldn’t even let me wear acrylic nails until the 11th or 12th grade. So, I would “play” in makeup at home, but I couldn’t wear it out. I would watch a YouTuber named Nitra B slay her makeup and emulate her. She was really my inspiration. And when I found out that she was from Alabama like me, that really drove me to keep going.
Today, I’ve been told that I’m a major deal in the makeup scene in Birmingham, AL. “One of the best of the best,” they say. But I’m just JaChrista, a girl from Birmingham, AL with a brush and a dream.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Being self-funded and working a 9-5 job on top of doing makeup isn’t easy, but it’s all worth it. Makeup is my outlet and my time to tap into my creativity. Every challenge has only strengthened my dedication and love for this craft, making each success even more rewarding.
We’ve been impressed with Beauty by JaChrista B, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a self-taught makeup artist, my journey has been fueled by a genuine passion for the art and craft of makeup, which shines through in every look I create. I specialize in both every day and bridal makeup, as well as editorial looks for promotions and photoshoots, offering a versatile range of styles from natural elegance to bold creativity. What sets me apart is my commitment to providing a personalized experience for each client, taking the time to understand their preferences, skin type, and unique features to enhance their natural beauty. My meticulous attention to detail ensures that every aspect of the makeup application is perfect, especially for bridal makeup where every moment is captured in photos.
Additionally, I maintain the highest standards of professionalism, using high-quality products, staying updated with the latest trends and techniques, and ensuring a hygienic and comfortable environment for my clients.
I am most proud of having a consistent and diverse clientele. My clients come from all walks of life, seeking everything from competition makeup and everyday looks to bridal and mature makeup. They know that I am professional, passionate about my craft, and take my work seriously. This trust and loyalty from my clients are what drive me to continually excel and innovate in my field and I am forever grateful. I do not take them to granted.
