Hidden Gems: Meet Jasmine Elder of Lotta Woman Plus Size Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Elder.

Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always was complimented on how I dress and told that I should start selling clothes for ladies my size. I would always say I don’t know about that I just don’t see myself selling clothes. But when I would need cute outfits to go out I could never find any in the local stores in my city they were all old fashion looking with flowers and ruffles all over “Not cute at all” and even when I would support other boutiques that tried to sell plus size clothing they weren’t true by size running too small. I just broke down and said I’m going to start selling fashionable plus size clothing for my lovely big girls! I went and bought a journal that had scriptures in it to encourage me on the journey I was about to take because I knew it was going to take a lot work, dedication, and faith. So, I started thinking of names and it took me forever to think of one never thought it would be so hard but I got to thinking about when men would always say that’s a lot of woman right there at first I took it as they were being funny but I decided to ask the guy what he meant and he told me a woman with a curvaceous figure that has whole lot confidence and beautiful!Basically too much to handle lol! I knew I was just that big, beautiful, and confident! So I came up with “Lotta Woman” And that’s how I got my name for my business.

But just few months after I got really sick with Covid-19 and double pneumonia and it shut my lungs down, the doctors were telling my parents they don’t think I was going to make it cause the ventilator was breathing 100% for me but God had other plans for me. He brought me through. I had to learn how to walk, talk, write and get my strength back. All I can say that it was all God that helped me get back right. After I came home from being hospitalized for 2 months in a half, I knew I couldn’t go back to doing what I did for a living, so I was worried about what I was going to do for money, then one day my Mom brought me my journal that I had started planning my business in and I knew then it was my time to get serious with that. First I had to make sure no one had my business name and nobody did so I got my LLC August 30th,2021, then I made my own logo it turned out awesome, and then started looking into vendors I found one I was interested in so I ordered my first batch of clothes in September. I got it in a everything was true plus size clothing. I had my first sell September 13th, 2021 and from then on I’ve been selling my clothes, all of my beautiful Plus size ladies love their outfits! I have my ups and downs with it but I’m very proud of myself and how far I have came with my small business. I plan on becoming a popular plus size store everywhere! I just have to continue to pray and have faith cause I know God has plans for me! I just want to thank my family for being such great supporters throughout my journey!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it wasn’t easy at all cause I knew I didn’t have the funds to start the business so I just saved up and help from family I was able to get to the point where I’m at now!
