Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Griffin.
Hi Jasmine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for education Initiated when I was a teenager. I was blessed to be raised by my grandmothers. I primarily lived with my mother’s mom. She assisted my aunt in operating our family’s daycare. I found my love for education within the early stages of working within the daycare setting. Educational background is strong within my family. Upon graduating high school, I knew exactly what I wanted to do! I enrolled into a local university to make my dreams my career. I now have ten years of teaching experience. I’ve successfully taught in the private and school sector. Over the years, I learned that all students learn at a different pace and levels. I’ve taught students who were academic genius yet socially introverted. I don’t label my students who struggle academically with learning disabilities. In fact, it’s merely an inability that we strive to strengthen through hard work and consistency.
In 2019, I accepted the position as site director of a Headstart Preschool. I was a young professional overseeing a fully staffed and enrolled educational institution. I absolutely loved being able to mentor the educators on staff. We were able to accomplish numerous academic gains within the toddler student body. However, I realized that leadership wasn’t for me in that season.
Home is where the heart is so I returned back to the classroom setting. All was excelling, I started face to face tutoring part-time totaling 8 hours weekly. I successfully did so roughly for eight months. I was also working full-time on the weekends as a server at a local steakhouse. At that current time, I was a single parent to my two young boys, Antonio who’s now 16 and Nyne is 6. My extraneous work hours begin to cause a raft in my parenting. I knew that I didn’t want to continue to cultivate such an environment for my kids. Then boom the pandemic hit! I contracted Covid from a scholar during a face to face session. I’ll never forget having to fight Covid, more sadly it was during the Christmas holidays. That was my first Christmas without my boys. My body was exhausted however, I was determined to be a full-time entrepreneur.
God provided me with a vision to virtually service scholars. I knew kids would be participating in temporary remote learning. I faced much self-doubt in the beginning. Yet, I knew my God would not give me a vision that would perish. I’m blessed to have a praying grandmothers and mother. I allowed my faith to trump my fears.
I successfully operate within 7 US states. I speak expansion over my business daily. I received my first out of state scholar by a posting a multi-millionaire entrepreneur shared on her IG story. I’m forever thankful for Supa Cent’s kindness and belief in Book A Teacher. With consistency, diligence, patience and prayer, I’ve expanded into the professional career services world. I obtained my resume and cover letter writing certification. I’m currently preparing to take the National Resume Writer exam. I affirm that I’m walking in my God’s given purpose. My business horizons are broadening daily for my company. I’ve allowed where I come from to bridge a gap academically and professionally. In the years to come, I will Passover the torch of my greater success to my Kids. I can only hope that their mother’s hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? What’s that?! I’d like to meet an entrepreneur was has journeyed a smooth road.
I was born with an eye condition called Kerataconus. In my late 20’s I was declared legally blind in my right eye. This past August I was graced with the ability of vision. I’m a successful cornea transplant recipient. My road to recover was tough, however I come from a praying family. I was blessed to have an understanding and sympathetic clientele. Faith must always trump any obstacle set forth.
From my experience, there’s nothing smooth about being an entrepreneur operating multi streams of income can become stressful abruptly. Businesses have peek and off peak seasons. In addition to being the owner, bookkeeper, customer service representative and most importantly balancing family. My biggest struggle was time management even when I wasn’t working I was working. I had become mentally overwhelmed,
In the midst of my business thriving I went through a divorce and lost all that I once knew “my family.” I never allowed what I went through to become a barrier as it pertained to my success. In fact, it made me thrive harder. I wanted to be a beacon of hope to my kids that no matter what you may endure, you can pick up the broken pieces and still create something meaningful and beautiful.
I must admit that I quit my business at least twice in my head. Considering time management was also a struggle I began to increase my knowledge on time management while implementing more intentional organization strategies. I now live by Google Calendar. I’ve found not only myself but also balance within my personal life and entrepreneurship.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Book a Teacher?
Book A Teacher is multi-functional business. I provide virtual learning services to scholars of all grade levels beginning at the Pre-Kindergarten level. In addition to servicing the Academic needs of scholars, I also provide SAT and ACT prep for scholars who aspire to attend college. I’m an advocate and supporter to those who I serve (teach). I attend parent teacher conferences, extracurricular activities and much more.
It’s gratifying to be of assistance to adult professionals. The job market requirements sometimes can be unrealistic. However, I find that my clients possess the experience but their professional cover letter and resume wording stated experience and highlighted skills doesn’t satisfy the job requirements. A professional cover letter and resume should magnify your experience, education and skills set.
The favor that’s been and will continue to be bestowed upon my business sets me apart. Along with my ability to extend grace to those that I encounter. I’m patient with my clients which provides them with a sense of relief. I reassure my professional clients that they are receiving quality service at an unmatchable rate. I currently offer a 48 hour turn around time on my professional career services and web designs.
Book A Teacher is your education and professional service provider. Book me I teach!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe I’m walking in my God’s given purpose. My ability to extend grace to my young scholar’s and adult clients has allowed me to be successful. The extension of grace is what saves us. I’m a conscious believer in God, so therefore I allow him to lead through me. Often times I find myself empathizing with my parents, 80% of my enrolled scholars are being raised in a single parent (primarily mom) home. I recall on several occasions struggling as a single parent. As a provider, we must make self-sacrifices in order to provide. I inform my clients that my services are an investment to their success. Whether I’m providing virtual learning services or professional career services it’s all an investment. I mentioned Grace is what saves us, that’s what I do for my clients in a sense. I know that may read cliche’ however, it’s accurate. I save my virtual learning scholar’s from the fear, frustration and agony of self-doubt. When providing professional services to adult professionals I’m a provider of reassurance that with proper preparation and a well-composed resume, their career goals can be met. Enhancing client’s interviewing skills and confidence drives my clients with certainty that their ideal profession is only a successful interview away. When providing Web Design services, my clients are reassured that their website will be designed to reach and service their targeted audience. Grace has carried me a long way emotionally, financially, and mentally. I’ve been blessed within my entrepreneurial journey. I pray that I continue to be a blessing to those whom I encounter and serve.
In conclusion I’d like to dedicate this interview article to my oldest son, Antonio, he shared the following statement in regards to my virtual learning services. “The Book A Teacher program took a great impact on my academic success because of the way the tutoring pushes you to success. The program helped me a lot with my schooling bringing my grades up in certain classes tremendously. I greatly appreciate the program for what it helped me do and getting A B honor roll again. I personally feel like the program is a great choice and people all around the world should partake in it because the results you will see in your child’s academic success is mind blowing.
