Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayda Jones. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Jayda Jones is a first-generation entrepreneur & college student. Born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri Jayda started her apparel brand Trust the Process Co. to increase Black representation in STEM & Education. She believes in developing a community of Black professionals in this professional area. She began her college career first by studying chemistry and then switching to mechanical engineering. While she never knew pursuing this major could take her so far, she also was not aware of the rigor of engineering. Regardless she could feel there was purpose in it. As a first-generation college student, she knew the struggles that many people of underrepresented backgrounds face when pursuing their goals in STEM. This apparel brand inspires the current and future generations of STEM & Educational professionals to have positive mental health, exhibit strong financial literacy, and engage in mentorship among Black STEM (+) students and professionals.
While Jayda has since changed her major to Liberal Studies (Concentration in Mechanical Engineering & Business Management) her impact on STEM remains through her business. She is expected to graduate from The Illustrious North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in May 2023.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being primarily raised by my grandparents, I’ve always felt like my life was different. When I got to college, I struggled heavily with my mental health while trying to process my life up until that point. I often had to juggle my mental health with the heavy mental taxation that came from rigorous coursework. To add to the level of complexity, I began my college journey at a predominantly white institution where less than 2 percent of students in any given classroom were Black or female. I’ve always held the belief that I am capable of an amazing life and I allowed school and engineering to be that vehicle. After a life-changing Summer Engineering Research Program, I made the decision to transfer to an HBCU late in my college career. This transition helped me be in a more supportive academic environment and helped me develop a perspective that will be critical to my success in both business and the world.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Something I am most proud of about this business is being able to highlight students and professionals in STEM in a way that makes them feel special. Many of us sacrifice in school but rarely get recognized. I love utilizing this platform to show the Black community that we are making great progress. It’s important to promote positive images.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
She is also a Proud Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Before I became a businesswoman, engineering and research occupied my time. I became a tenured research associate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in a Computational Biomechanics lab. Here we advanced the knowledge of bone growth and ACL-related injuries.
I also presented research at Brown University that showcased the Mixed Reality program I developed for OBGYNs to advance knowledge on pre-mature birth.
I wrote my first ebook last October. If You Can Hold It in Your Mind… 7 Steps to Shifting the Energy Around You.
I wrote it to help the average person take seven actionable steps toward creating the life they love.
