Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenelle Salazar.
Hi Jenelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I moved to Atlanta at the end of 2006 from Las Vegas, Nevada. I was already certified in the fitness industry & wanted a fresh start. So me & my daughter (she was two at the time) made our way to the South. I trained at LA Fitness my first year here met a lot of people & started “In Home training” My business grew FAST! Soon I was the most sought after Female Trainer in Atlanta’ I was also hosting red carpet events & did celebrity interviews worked my way through the industry. I trained people like “Tiny” Tameka Harris (T.I’s Wife), Jermaine Dupri, Mya the singer, Tammy Rivera, Damien Wilkins, to name a few. I was also training almost every waitress & Entertainer in the Magic City at Piedmont Park! I had ATL ON LOCK!!! From 2013-16, I traveled & did boot camp classes all over the world, selling out fast! Then in 2016, I dropped my Own BODIED app in IOS & Google Play, All while also dropping my own Clothing line @BodiedAthletics I was very busy collaborating with sponsors like Sweetsweat, flat tummy tea, Kaleidoscope & more! During this time, I’d had two more children, still maintaining my healthy lifestyle & training women all over the world through online pregnancy programs & in-person classes! The grind never stopped!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. Being an entrepreneur is a roller coaster & can be tough because it’s up to us to wake up every day & PUSH ourselves to create a way through networking, content, etc but in 2018, after having my last child my world got flipped upside down… I almost lost my life & for five years had reconstructive surgeries every 6-8 months to fix what happens to me since this unforeseen event, my life hasn’t been the same! It totally changed EVERYTHING! I’m just now five years later, trying to put the pieces together. It has been mentally emotionally, physically & financially draining to say the least … I’m trying to find myself again, my spirit has been lost, But I never gave up. I’m still here pushing through the adversity that life & wrong choices through at me. Just fighting through depression & getting stronger every day.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My brand is Me. GET BODIED BY J & within that brand, I own a Clothing Line, BODIED ATHLETICS and a Hemp. line HEMPBYJ, BODIED APP & I’m an advocate & survivor Of silicone removal… since 2018! I’m proud of myself for creating a way for myself and my family. I came from nothing & beat the odds I never graduated High School or when to college. I’m truly self-made, all with the hustle & fight to become better in life than what I saw growing up. I haven’t offered an online program due to my body being down per-say but I definitely want to get back into fitness in that aspect to continue to help women get through unforeseen challenges in life as I have. To give them hope that they’re not the only ones.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I started all this back before anyone did. That I was doing YouTube tutorials & selling PDF ebooks before anyone was selling programs, Traveling & doing boot camps before anyone even thought about it since 2011-12. That I funded my own APP in Apple Store & Google Play & came out with my own clothing line all in the same year (2016). The recognition of such things as a minority women with three children is scarce & people fail to pay homage. I really paved the way for others that are now doing the same things. At the time, NO ONE was doing them… I guess you can say I’m giving myself my flowers.
