Hidden Gems: Meet Jennifer Garrett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Garrett.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In my early 20s, I achieved a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I enjoyed a career in Human Resources Administration and consulting for several years. When my husband and I had our first child, we decided to move from Colorado back to Georgia to be near extended family. During our home search, I found a passion for real estate and set out to earn my license and change careers. That was almost 20 years ago and I’ve never looked back. I love the business of real estate; it’s so dynamic! As a real estate agent, I manage every part of my business – budgeting, marketing, meeting with clients and assisting them with the purchase or sale of their homes. I enjoy educating & guiding them through the process and negotiating favorable terms for my buyers and sellers. It’s very rewarding when they trust me with their investment and extend that trust by referring me to their family and friends. I’ve helped several clients through multiple transactions. I’ve assisted multiple generations within a family. My client’s satisfaction and referral is my ultimate goal. In 2021, I started an independent brokerage under my name – Jennifer Garrett Real Estate. I continue to help clients buy and sell while I work on building a small team of agents to mentor & encourage as they find their confidence and passion in this business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The real estate market is ever-changing. Working full-time in real estate the last 20 years, I’ve experienced highs & lows, especially during the housing recession in 2008. We’ve raised two kids along the way and juggling the needs of a family and clients can be challenging. Many times, I work evenings & weekends. But, I found a balance, set some boundaries, and have enjoyed the freedom to be where I need to be for my family, the time I’ve needed for my clients, and a little time just for me. Changing schedules and changing markets have created a resiliency in me that’s empowering. I’m always learning and growing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jennifer Garrett Real Estate?
We help our clients buy, sell, and lease homes. When I have the opportunity, I like to renovate homes. My passion is assisting first-time home buyers. A friend of mine posted this the other day, “You are buying a home no matter what. You just need to decide if you’ll buy one for yourself…or buy one for your landlord.” It’s my goal to create as many new homeowners as possible and there is great joy when I see my clients hold the keys to their new home, their own home. Clients like Natalie, a single mom who I first met when she was renting a home from one of my clients. She told me she’d call me to help her purchase a home for her and her sweet girls when she was ready. She did! And, then she purchased a larger home a few years later, began a catering business, and her family is thriving! I love helping couples beginning their lives together, like Oscar & Andrea and Cody & Madison, and young families like Jay & Destinee’s, ready to grow and needing more space of their own. I love helping clients who want to move into a condo in the city or who are ready for the low maintenance lifestyle of an active adult community. I enjoy assisting with the sale of homes that raised families whose owners are now ready to pass on the legacy. A home is a place of so many memories, a place of joy, a place of comfort. A home is one of the biggest investments one will make in their lifetime. To be entrusted to help someone during the purchase or sale of a home is an amazing feeling.

We are members of the national, state, and West Georgia Board of REALTORS®. One of the biggest honors in my career was helping organize An Evening with Charles Person for our Board and community. Mr. Person is a Freedom Rider, veteran, and an amazing person. As a member of the West Georgia Board, I’ve also enjoyed teaming up with our local school system and students to celebrate diversity and fair housing, partnering with local organizations for clothing and food drives, and developing my professional skills while serving on the Board of Directors and as our Board’s 2021 President. I recently joined my friends as a member of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Always hire a professional who loves the city in which you have a home to sell. I cannot stress this enough. I love Georgia! The seasons roll in and roll out at a good pace. The mountains, the waterfalls, and the parks are beautiful. While I-20 has become a bigger bear to deal with over the years, I love the metro Atlanta area. I find it fun to have access to everything a major city has to offer with a short drive back to our home in the burbs. While I go where my license takes me, I’ve raised my family and my real estate business in Douglasville. Douglasville is home; it’s our happy place! I’ve always been proud to be a part of this thriving area.
