Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadisha Jones.
Hi Kadisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m from St Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands. I am 28 years old with a 3-year-old son. I have always had the dream to be a hairstylist. I always knew I wanted to do hair. Growing up I wanted to do everybody’s hair. 2016 I took a step out in faith and started working in a natural hair salon. It was different. I learned what to do and what not to do. I’m glad I experienced that before openings up my own hair salon. 2019 I knew I had enough clients to open up my own business LocImpressMe but I was definitely scared of the drastic jump I was about to take. I prayed every day and put in way more work. I told myself the more passionate I am about my work others will appreciate it. Now we are here in 2023 with 400 growing clients and opening a new hair salon in Sandy Springs and closing my old Decatur location. I teach loc classes, make my own products, and give all of my client’s knowledge about healthy loc maintenance. One thing I can say about being an entrepreneur you have to have passion about what you are doing. You have to love what you are doing. You have to put a lot of work in to see your outcome. Before opening a business always have a business and go by your plan.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have been thru a lot of obstacles. It is not easy to open up a business by yourself. It’s always good to have a business partner. Every business owner doesn’t know how to run a business that was the only struggle with me while opening my business because I never ran a business before.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LocImpressMe?
At my hair salon, we do proper loc maintenance, we don’t twist, palm roll or interlock. We root wrap. Root wrap is the perfect technique for locs. If you twist anything it will eventually pop. If you keep twisting anything it will eventually get thin and break, interlocking causing hair loss and causes knots throughout your hair. We specialize in locs. I sell oils, rose water, hair scarfs with my brand on them personally made by me. We provide detoxing, hot oil treatments, oil treatments, etc. The oils I make cause hair growth. My rose water mist helps with conditioning your hair and moisturizing your hair.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor is very important. My strategy in finding a mentor was communicating with others that are doing better than you so they can tell you more you need to know. Always find someone that is doing better than you so you can look up to them
