Hidden Gems: Meet Kala Ramsey of Ramsey Education Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kala Ramsey.

Hi Kala, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business in 2023 after recognizing a growing need for individualized, structured literacy instruction for students who were struggling to progress in traditional classroom settings.
Prior to launching my business, I spent years teaching in public education, where I specialized in dyslexia-aligned and structured literacy interventions. During that time, I built strong relationships with many families and began tutoring some of their children during after-school hours.
After my oldest child was born, I knew I wanted to prioritize motherhood while continuing my passion for teaching literacy. Following unexpected circumstances in the days after her birth, I made the decision to become a stay-at-home mom and begin building my tutoring practice — creating something of my own that was rooted in evidence-based instruction, advocacy, and meaningful partnership with families.
Looking back, I can clearly see God’s hand in that season — opening doors, providing the right connections, and guiding each step forward in ways I could not have planned on my own. I am deeply grateful for His provision and faithfulness throughout the growth of this work.
The families I worked with, along with a few faithful former colleagues, generously shared my information on their social media pages in those early days. I am forever grateful to those families and colleagues. Their trust and support became one of the earliest building blocks of my business.
Since then, Ramsey Education Services has grown primarily through parent trust, student progress, and word-of-mouth referrals. Today, I serve families across the North Metro Atlanta area from my home and virtually beyond as a Literacy Specialist, Dyslexia Tutor, and Student Advocate. My work is driven by the belief that every child deserves access to instruction that truly meets their learning needs, and a support system that empowers both students and their families.
What began as small, relationship-driven after-school tutoring has become my life’s work — helping students grow in confidence and literacy ability through structured, effective, and meaningful instruction.
Motherhood shaped my “why,” literacy instruction fuels my “what,” and faith in God anchors the purpose behind it all.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a completely smooth road, but it has been a meaningful one.
Some of the biggest struggles early on were learning how to run the business side of education — scheduling, billing, marketing, and building systems from scratch while still delivering high-quality instruction.
I also faced the challenges many educators-turned-entrepreneurs experience: finding the right work-life balance, navigating parent expectations, and continuously expanding my knowledge to serve students with complex learning needs like dyslexia and language-based differences.
There were seasons of slow growth, moments of self-doubt, and the constant push to refine my practice and business model at the same time.
But every challenge strengthened my work — it deepened my commitment to families, sharpened my instructional skill set, and shaped Ramsey Education Services into what it is today: a service rooted in structured literacy, advocacy, and trust.
The road hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been worth it.

We’ve been impressed with Ramsey Education Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Ramsey Education Services is a specialized literacy tutoring and student advocacy practice rooted in Structured Literacy and Orton-Gillingham-aligned instruction.
I serve students who struggle with reading, writing, spelling, and language processing — particularly those with dyslexia and other literacy-based learning differences. I’m known for providing data-driven assessments, highly individualized intervention, and clear guidance for families navigating IEPs, 504 plans, and learning support.
What sets me apart is that I bridge the gap between tutor, specialist, and advocate — not only teaching students how to read and spell effectively, but also helping families understand why their child struggles, what their data means, and how to support them long-term. My instruction is systematic, explicit, research-based, and tailored to each learner, rather than a one-size-fits-all program.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Ramsey Education Services is recognized for trust, transformation, and family partnership. My brand was built through parent referrals and student progress, not advertising alone, and I’ve worked intentionally to create materials, messaging, and service offerings that feel clear, supportive, approachable, and empowering.
I want readers to know that my services go beyond tutoring — they include diagnostic screeners, literacy intervention, progress monitoring, and advocacy consulting, all delivered with deep respect for families and meaningful student outcomes.
Above all, this brand exists to give struggling learners access to instruction that changes their trajectory and gives families confidence in the path forward.
And if there’s one thing I want readers to walk away with, it’s this: Every child deserves literacy instruction that truly works for their brain — and families deserve support that helps them understand the process, not feel overwhelmed by it.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
When I was starting out, I didn’t have a perfectly mapped-out business plan — I had a clear sense of calling and a willingness to take the next right step. Much of what I’ve built came through relationships, word-of-mouth, and learning along the way.
One thing I wish I had known earlier is that it’s okay not to have everything figured out at the beginning. The systems, structure, and clarity came with time. What mattered most was showing up faithfully for the students and families in front of me and doing the work well.
My advice to anyone just starting out is to focus on excellence, integrity, and people over growth. If you serve well and stay grounded in your purpose, the rest will follow — often in ways you couldn’t have planned.
