Hidden Gems: Meet Kaleigh Smith of The Studio of Self

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaleigh Smith.

Hi Kaleigh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started studying astrology when I lived In Bali, Indoensia. I was pregnant with my daughter at the time and I had reconnected with a friend of mine whom I had done yoga teacher training with. She was studying astrology at the time and had offered to do an astrology reading for me. At the time I was really struggling with my career and jumped at the opportunity to understand what was happening. I was also super introverted at the time and losing a lot of friends, so hoping an astrology reading would clarify things. Interestingly enough I was going through my saturn return, Saturn rules my career which was restricting career options. I also had jupiter in the 12th house expanding solitude and alone time! I got a lot of clarity from that reading and decided to start studying astrology myself.

Over the next several years I absorbed as much information as I could, attended Norwac astrology conference, read books and attended lectures. My friend and I also started and astrology podcast called two girls talk transits. During the time I was studying astrology I was also in my Master’s program for expressive art therapy. I decided to create a business that blended all of my learning and my talents. Helping people to transform through deeply understanding themselves. I think Astrology provides a unique viewpoint on our life and our story, an understanding of who we are on a soul level.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No way! I had lived in Bali for the first year of my daughter’s life. There were so many financial and health struggles. Back to astrology, I was going through a 6th house profection year. The 6th house is all about your health and routines, and profection years change with every year you age. For example at 29 your in a 6th house year, 30 a 7th house year, 31 and 8th house year etc etc. During my 6th house year I got a parasite in Bali which turned into an auto-immunte disorder. Bali didn’t have medications that were advanced enough so I moved home to the United States to live with my parents. It took me months to stabalize, there were points I was so sick I couldn’t leave the house. But so much happened at one time, I moved home, became a single mother, worked on stabilizing my health, had just entered into my graduate program and studied astrology alongside everything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business focuses on providing astrological counsel for people. Right now I can’t offer therapeutic services as a part of my business because of licensure legalities. I will be associatively licensed at the beginning of 2026. So right now I focus on astrocartography and astrology readings. However, Astrocartography is my big seller. This is where I do astrological readings for different localities on the globe. So let’s say you want to bring love into your life, there is a specific location on the map that your love life will likely thrive the best.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I do think I’m a risk taker. I’m non-traditional in the way that I do work. I love to work individually with people and I really don’t resonate with the 9-5 experience and like it or not, I have never actually worked a traditional 9-5. I just don’t believe it’s for me. I’ve applied for them, but never gotten the job. Entrepreneurship and freelance work has always been a part of my life.

I also think I took a huge risk deciding to move to Asia. I spent 4 years there and moved there knowing I wouldn’t make much money. But for me it wasn’t about the money, it was about the experience.
