Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Lancaster.
Hi Kate, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Poe’s Purpose is a passion project turned nonprofit organization that specializes in educating local communities on proper small animal care through outreach programs. We care for a variety of species including guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas and reptiles! Our mission is to create a world that is more understanding of exotic critters and their needs by providing knowledge in our communities on their care.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When you have passion, it tends to drive you in the direction necessary to turn dreams into reality. It helps to have so many wonderful humans supporting our cause within our community. We have had the opportunity to create our organization to fit the needs within our community for small animal care education. While we are always tweaking our procedures to be the best effective, there are definitely challenges that come up, and it helps we have a wonderful team that helps navigate through those times.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Poe’s Purpose has a heavy focus on educating about many species of domesticated pets available for ownership in the state of Georgia. We are most known for our help in the rabbit & guinea pig world — but we have been expanding into a variety of other small animal species including reptiles, over the last two years! We love to get into our community and provide outreach programs including educating students within schools and providing enrichment programs to those in assisted living communities among other events and opportunities to help some of the most forgotten critters in our communities. We often assist families in securing a well-educated home through the direct placement of pets that need to be rehomed as well as providing materials to owners during temporary hardships in order to keep their pets with them through those times. We are very proud of what we have created and there is so much more to come in 2023!
How do you think about happiness?
Being able to provide shelter, full bellies and tlc to the creatures located at the sanctuary is everything to me. Caring for animals has always been a strong passion of mine, and it didn’t take long for me to realize what a dire need we had in our community for small animal education. Being able to improve the lives of so many through our outreach programs really is everything I need in this life. Being able to share my love for animals with my six years old boys brings such joy to my heart.
