Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Taylor.
Please kick things off for us with some background on your story.
I am a native to Georgia, growing up in Cobb County, GA. I attended Florida State University where I received a B.A. in Criminology and Spanish. After receiving my undergraduate degree in 2013 from Florida State University, I decided to go to law school (a long-term dream of mine since I was young). I obtained my Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Atlanta John Marshall’s School of Law in 2018.
I worked and gained experience in several areas of law, including estate planning, probate, and personal injury – the areas of law that I currently practice for my newly-based firm Georgia Legal Counsel. I decided to take a leap of faith earlier this year (April 2021) and finally start my own firm.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road… there’s a big difference working under another firm and then suddenly stepping out on your own and being your own boss. Instead of only playing the attorney role, now I am responsible for several different roles including accounting, marketing, managing partner and of course being the attorney for my clients. There’s a lot of hats to fill and as of right now, I have to wear all of them.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Georgia Legal Counsel was established April 2021. I specialize in estate planning (Wills, POAs, Trusts), probate (including guardianships/conservatorships), and personal injury (primarily motor vehicle accidents and slip and falls).
I am known for being high-communicative and putting my clients first.
Three core values of Georgia Legal Counsel:
Honesty – In order to build trust and maintain our reputation, we must start with honesty – honesty with clients our clients is our priority.
Respect – this is a core value as it encourages trust and improves communication. It is essential in resolving disputes or providing understanding (this goes hand in hand with the first value of honesty)
Excellence – striving for the highest quality and professionalism in everything we do.
Georgia Legal Counsel is unique in that we value our clients and will go above and beyond for them. This is what makes the firm special, as you do not get the bare minimum. We continue to strive for excellence and that starts with putting the needs of our clients first.
I would like my clients to know that I offer affordable plans for estate planning that are at a fixed rate so the client knows exactly what they are paying and not surprised by a bill at the end. The process is quick and easy!
I offer virtual consultations for the safety of COVID. If a client prefers in-person, I also offer to meet the client – no more having to take off from work to travel to an office. I come to the client!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew in the suburbs and played sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I was competitive in everything.
I excelled in academics. History and foreign languages were my favorite subjects in school.
I was shy but now I have grown out of that stage. I would still consider myself an introvert though.
