Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Steele.
Hi kiara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My interest in animals started at the tender age of 4 years old. I was introduced to my first dog, a Rottweiler named Bear at the age of 5. As a child, I’ve had lizards, rabbits, and dogs. My journey didn’t stop there, at the age of seventeen I was offered my first job at an animal hospital. I continued to explore and expand my knowledge in Veterinary medicine. Fast forward to present day, I have over a decade of knowledge and experience in working with animals. After working for different veterinary clinics and daycares, seeing how negatively pets were treated, lack of attention to customers, and how poorly company was ran I knew I wanted to start a business in this industry. I wanted to give the pets and their parents the attention they deserve at reasonable pricing. I also wanted to welcome in every breed as most facilities have breed restrictions. Not every dog is a vicious, mean or wanting to attack. So, I took my hard knocks knowledge and skills and started my own company. After all, change must start from the inside and with my insider knowledge I could begin to foster the change I wanted to see.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business is never easy, however, setting boundaries with clients and sticking to polices I set forth can help make obstacles a lot easier. What I find most challenging is knowing that you can’t please everyone. With this being said I often try to accommodate my clients needs the best way I can. Experiencing the ebbs and flows of being an entrepreneur created growth and maturity in my business mind and self worth. So far, with me owning a business, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, patience and the bandwidth to get through a brick wall.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about A day In Cali LLC?
A day in Cali LLC focuses on in-home boarding and petsitting for metro Atlanta and surrounding areas. We provide service for dogs whose owners are away for work or on vacation. Most of the pet lodging experience are hosted at large facilities which can be over crowded and scary for most pets. At A day in Cali LLC we provide a more intimate setting, limited to max 6 pets if client chooses in-home boarding.
Pets are hand walked multiple times a day, fed based on clientele instructions. As part of our service we provide updates to our clients with pictures and a brief description of how their pet is doing daily. We also provide grooming, concierge, offer all-natural dog treats, and daycare.
I would like readers to know that A day in Cali is a family operated company driven off the love of animals, of all kinds. We offer services at competitive pricing. Promotions and discounts are applied every 3 months to let our clients know we appreciate them. Each pet is special to us and given our undivided attention.
What makes us stand out even more is that we are one of very few minority-owned women businesses in Atlanta. We also change our business hours to 24 hours for two weeks during the months of November and December. Changing our hours helps accommodates clients whose professions are within the medical field and or first responders who are traveling to see family.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I would like to give a huge shoutout to my father, Adam. My father is the reason why I love animals. My father’s knowledge, patience and expertise with animals shaped me on what I know present day. Very few people know that my father was attacked by a Rottweiler growing up, this affected his eye sight and resulted in stitches and nerve damage in his leg. Rather than being fearful my dad turned pain into passion. Usually most people become fearful of dogs if being attacked or afraid of the breed there were attacked by . My dad decided to separate his experience and continue to love all breeds. Witnessing this has helped me navigate my business.
My daughter and returning clients are my biggest motivation. Returning Clients are the reason for my success. If a client returns this shows me they value the level of care, and trust me to care for their beloved pet while away. My Daughter, Caliegh pronounced “Cali” is also my biggest motivator. Just like me ,my daughter was introduced to dogs at a very young age. Watching her take interest in dogs, knowing breeds and their characteristics is amazing! shows me I can inspire anyone at any age.
