Hi Madelynn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into social media management started quite organically in 2019. I worked for a small business during college in Dahlonega, GA running their social media and creating content. After moving home due to COVID in 2020 I realized my passion for small businesses and perused opening 2 boutiques with my family, including a bridal shop. While working in the bridal industry, I noticed many small businesses struggling to maintain consistent, engaging social media presences despite having amazing products and services.

What began as helping a few wedding vendors with their Instagram accounts quickly evolved as I discovered my passion for digital storytelling and strategy. I realized I had a knack for creating content that resonated with audiences while understanding the technical aspects of algorithms and engagement.

In 3rd quarter 2024, I officially launched Social Butterfly Content Creation to serve both businesses and brides. My background in the wedding industry gave me unique insights into both business needs and bridal content creation.

Over the past few years, I’ve expanded from one-person operations to managing accounts for multiple businesses across various industries. What sets my approach apart is my content mapping system – planning months ahead rather than scrambling week-to-week.

Today, I’m proud to offer both comprehensive social media management for businesses and specialized content creation for weddings. This dual focus allows me to bring fresh perspectives to each client while maintaining the personalized touch that has become my signature.

The journey hasn’t been without challenges, but watching my clients grow their audiences and businesses through strategic social media has made every late night and algorithm change worthwhile!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any entrepreneurial journey, building Social Butterfly has definitely had its bumpy moments! The world of social media is constantly evolving, which brings both exciting opportunities and unique challenges.

One of the biggest hurdles was establishing boundaries between client work and personal time. When you manage social media, there’s a natural pressure to be ‘always on’ – algorithms don’t sleep, and trends can emerge overnight. Learning to create systems that allow me to stay responsive without burning out was a game-changer.

Algorithm changes have certainly kept me on my toes! Just when you think you’ve mastered a platform, everything shifts. I think one of the most relevant times that I can think of was just this year during the great TikTok ban of 2025, my clients weren’t freaking out due to a constant reshare of media via 4 different platforms (Facebook/Instagram/Tiktok/LinkedIn).

Growing from a one-woman show to managing multiple accounts required developing robust systems and workflows. My content mapping method was born from necessity – I needed a way to stay organized while maintaining quality and creativity across different brands.

These challenges ultimately shaped my approach and strengthened my services. Every obstacle became an opportunity to refine my strategies and create more value for clients. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but those bumps have made Social Butterfly what it is today!

The COVID-19 crisis completely transformed my career path in ways I never could have anticipated. What initially seemed like a challenging period of uncertainty ultimately guided me to my true passion.

Before the pandemic, I was living in Dahlonega with a different career trajectory in mind. When COVID hit and disrupted everything, I made the pivotal decision to join a family business in the bridal industry. This unexpected pivot became the catalyst for discovering my passion for social media marketing and content creation.

Working in the bridal space during a time when businesses desperately needed digital solutions opened my eyes to the power of strategic social media. I witnessed firsthand how proper online presence could keep businesses afloat during unprecedented times.

The most important lesson I learned was embracing adaptability. The pandemic taught me that sometimes our most challenging moments lead to our greatest opportunities. What started as a temporary solution blossomed into Social Butterfly Content Creation Co- a business I’m incredibly passionate about that allows me to help others thrive in the digital space.

COVID may have closed many doors, but it opened the one that led me exactly where I was meant to be. I’m grateful for the journey, despite its difficult beginnings, as it shaped both my career and perspective on finding opportunity within adversity.
