Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianna Alzoukani.
Hi Marianna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A love for coffee brought my husband, Ahmad, and me together. Ahmad grew up in Syria, where coffee is an essential part of culture and community, while I discovered my own love for coffee during college. We met at a coffee shop where Ahmad was working and I was studying during grad school. That same shop became the place where we got married and later worked side by side. Wanting to build something of our own to support our family, we started a mobile coffee business with a single espresso bar in a trailer. Over time, we grew to multiple trucks and bars, and eventually opened our coffee shop in Tucker. Today, our cafe is a community gathering place, and our journey continues as a family, with our daughter now greeting customers and growing up alongside the business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, this journey hasn’t always been easy. Like most entrepreneurial paths, it’s come with plenty of challenges. In the beginning, we were balancing other jobs while building our business on the side, which was exhausting but necessary to support ourselves. Eventually, we had to take a leap of faith and leave those jobs to put everything into the business, which was a scary but pivotal moment. There have also been the ongoing hurdles of paperwork, regulations, and the significant time, effort, and cost it takes to build and run a shop. On top of that, raising a young child while working more than full-time in a business that never truly “closes” has been its own challenge. Still, despite the hard moments, it has all been worth it, especially because we get to build this life and business together as a family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mint Coffeehouse?
Mint Coffeehouse is a family-owned coffee shop built on the belief that coffee is about more than what’s in the cup. It’s about connection. We serve thoughtfully crafted espresso drinks and quality coffee in a warm, welcoming space designed to bring people together. Our background and story shape everything we do: Ahmad comes from Syria, where coffee is deeply tied to hospitality and community, and that influence carries through our approach to service and care for others.
In addition to our brick and mortar cafe, we offer mobile espresso catering through our coffee trucks and mobile espresso bars, bringing the Mint experience to weddings, corporate events, schools, churches, and community gatherings. Whether in our shop or on location, our focus is the same: excellent drinks served with genuine hospitality.
What sets us apart is the heart behind the business. We’re hands-on owners who are present daily, focused on creating a space where everyone feels comfortable, known, and welcome, whether they’re stopping in for a quick drink or staying awhile. We’re proud that Mint Coffeehouse has become a true neighborhood gathering place in Tucker.
Brand wise, we’re most proud of the community we’ve built and the values we stand for: quality, warmth, consistency, and authenticity. We want our customers to know that when they visit Mint, or invite us to their event, they’re supporting a small family business rooted in care: for our craft, our customers, and the community we’re honored to serve.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality behind our success is genuine care: for our craft, our customers, and our community. We approach everything with intention, no matter how big or small, from how we make our drinks to how we welcome people into our space and show up for catering events. Being consistent, present, and people-focused has allowed us to build trust and meaningful relationships, which we believe is the foundation of a successful small business.
