Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Blue.
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a Georgia girl through and through. I grew up on the Eastside and went to Southwest Dekalb High School. I then attended The University of Georgia where I studied Marketing with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. While I was a student at UGA, I had the opportunity to go on a study abroad to Ghana to learn more about the textiles and culture when I met some really amazing girls that forever changed my life. The girls had such an amazing spirit and were doing their best in order to attend school so that they could provide a better life for themselves and their families. It was then that I questioned “What was my part?” and “How could I support?”.
From there, I returned back home shared my experience with my best friend. As two broke college students, we knew that our support had to be greater than our own bank account and we had the idea to start a scarf company to sponsor tuition, books, supplies and uniforms for the girls to continue their education.
Two weeks after graduating college, I took my first big leap and instead of going into a job (as college had prepared me for) I started my business full time.
Through our work, we were named Mashable’s Top Black Owned Businesses Changing the World, Southern Living’s Beauty Awards, featured in Essence, Black Enterprise, a commercial with Pantene, did a TEDTalk and even went back to Ghana to celebrate the graduation of the girls I started the business to support.
Inspired by my own entrepreneurial experiences, I started The Journey with Blue a talk show, where I lead conversations and coach women through the mindset, spiritual and success principles needed to take the leap and create the life & business of their dreams.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think a smooth road exists, especially when you are taking the leap into the unknown and building something greater than yourself.
One of the struggles I talk about on my show, The Journey with Blue, was the fact that I went through a $40,000 loss in my business. I mean, not only was this a hit financially but it was also a huge hit to my ego. It made me question, ‘If I was a failure?” or “If I could do this?”.
It was a long process of getting over this but when we start to redefine failures as just feedback and an opportunity to get better then we are no longer defeated by the inevitable failures along the ‘Journey’.
I believe the lessons and failures along the ‘Journey’ are there to teach you and unveil your power.
You definitely have to check out my conversation with Brandice Daniel, founder of Harlem’s Fashion Row, to get the full story.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the coach and host of The Journey with Blue, where I lead conscious conversations and support women through sharing the spiritual, success and mindset principles needed to take the leap and make their dream life & business a reality.
On the third season of the show, I sit down with guests Danielle Leslie, founder of Course from Scratch, Brandice Daniel, founder of Harlem’s Fashion Row, Renae Bluitt, creator of She Did That Film on Netflix and other phenomenal women.
As a trained coach and experienced entrepreneur, I believe that there are infinite opportunities available to us all. Through my signature program ‘Take the Leap with Blue’ I help women gain the clarity, confidence, and step-by-step strategy to bring their business ideas to life.
I was named by 21 Ninety “Top Coaches to Follow” and by Blk Women Hustle “Top 20 Black Women to Watch in 2022”.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Living is a risk!
I don’t think there is anything you can do that isn’t risky.
Those who try to avoid risks are lying to themselves and are only limiting themselves to all that life truly has to offer.
So whatever it is that’s been on your mind and been on your heart…go for it! Take the Leap!
Life is waiting for you.
