Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Reeves.
Hi Mike, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I retired at 50 after a rewarding career as a global C-level executive. My wife and I spent several years splitting our time between Costa Rica, Nashville, and Atlanta. Eventually, though, we wanted to be closer to our children and grandchildren, so we settled at Lake Oconee, Georgia. The community reminded us of Colorado—tall pines, peaceful lakes, blue herons, deer, and plenty of trails. It was the perfect mix of beauty and tranquility.
There was only one problem: I’m Type A, and while I don’t golf or boat, I still needed a challenge. The spark came one evening after returning from Europe. We were dropped at a Groome shuttle stop on a Sunday night, miles from home, and I spent hours unsuccessfully trying to find an Uber, Lyft, or limo. Neighbors told me they’d had the same problem: in our rural resort community, reliable transportation—whether to the airport or for a night out—was nearly impossible to find.
I decided to test the market by driving for Uber and Lyft. But in Lake Oconee, I could leave my app on all day and never get a request. It was the classic chicken-and-egg problem: riders didn’t request cars because they assumed none were available, and drivers didn’t operate here because demand was too low. To stay busy, I drove in Athens, Covington, and Atlanta and ultimately completed nearly 5,000 five-star trips. That experience confirmed something important: while rideshare didn’t fit Lake Oconee, there was strong demand among executives, retirees, and couples for a higher-end, reliable, licensed limousine service.
That’s when SkyView Comfort Ride Services was born. I chose to focus on a niche: one to three passengers, luxury sedans, and personal five-star service. My typical clients are Lake Oconee residents traveling to the Atlanta airport, Ritz-Carlton guests, or couples heading out for an elegant night in Greene, Morgan, or Putnam counties.
Today, I’m proud to say that SkyView is fully licensed, insured at five times the state requirement, and focused on delivering what larger companies can’t: the personal touch of an owner-operator. Clients know exactly who is picking them up—me. My goal isn’t to be the biggest, but to provide safe, stylish, stress-free rides where comfort meets class in every mile.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most small business stories, it hasn’t been perfectly smooth, but each challenge has taught me something valuable and helped shape SkyView Comfort Ride Services.
When I first tested Uber and Lyft, I learned quickly that rideshare doesn’t truly fit Lake Oconee. There is some demand—usually visitors requesting last-minute rides to the airport or dinner—but it’s random and not enough to sustain a driver sitting on the app all day. More importantly, the higher-end local clientele wanted something entirely different. They wanted someone they knew and trusted—often a neighbor they see at the same restaurants—who was reliable, fully insured, and professional. Safety and peace of mind are huge factors for them, and surprisingly, my airport rates are often the same as, or even less than, Uber and Lyft.
The next step was defining my niche. I realized I didn’t want to chase large groups with SUVs or Sprinters like other limo companies. What I truly enjoy is the personal experience of driving one to three clients—whether it’s an executive needing quiet time, a couple heading out for a birthday or anniversary, or part-time residents arriving at the airport. That small, luxury sedan experience was being overlooked, and it became SkyView’s focus.
Licensing was another stage of the journey. The Georgia Department of Public Safety and U.S. DOT moved quickly, and this October I received my permanent limousine license after the required provisional year. Atlanta Airport Ground Transportation was equally supportive. Their rules require at least two vehicles—a safeguard to ensure clients are never left stranded. Once I added a second luxury sedan, they guided me through the process and welcomed SkyView into the airport system.
One of the toughest realities has been commercial insurance. Premiums are steep, even with a spotless record, and that’s why some operators stay informal. But many don’t realize that if they’re not fully licensed, their insurance won’t cover passengers in an accident. With Atlanta traffic, that risk is far too great.
So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road—but every challenge has made SkyView stronger, reinforcing what we stand for: safety, comfort, reliability, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing your driver is both your neighbor and the owner.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SkyView Comfort Ride Services?
SkyView Comfort Ride Services is a boutique limousine company based in Lake Oconee, Georgia. We specialize in premium, private transportation for one to three passengers, with a focus on airport transfers, elegant nights out, and custom trips. Our vehicles are luxury Tesla Model S sedans, and every ride is owner-driven by me.
What sets us apart is the personal touch. Many transportation companies rely on rotating drivers, SUVs, or larger vans to move big groups. SkyView is different by design. Clients know exactly who is picking them up: the owner of the company, not a random driver. That consistency builds trust—especially in a close-knit, high-end community like Lake Oconee, where neighbors often see each other at the same restaurants, clubs, and events. For my clients, knowing their driver personally is as important as the comfort of the ride.
Another distinction is reliability and value. People often assume a limousine service is more expensive than Uber or Lyft, but our rates—$150 for a Lake Oconee to Atlanta airport transfer, for example—are often the same or even less. The difference is that with SkyView, you’re guaranteed a professional, fully insured, licensed operator. There’s no waiting, no cancellations, and no uncertainty. Clients can book in advance and know their ride will be there exactly when needed.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of our reputation for five-star service. Every detail matters, whether it’s providing a quiet ride for an executive, helping a couple celebrate an anniversary in style, or ensuring part-time residents feel at home the moment they land at the airport. We carry five times the insurance coverage required by the state, maintain full licensing with Georgia DPS, U.S. DOT, and Atlanta Airport Ground Transportation, and treat each trip with the same level of professionalism as if it were our very first.
SkyView isn’t about being the biggest. It’s about being the best at what we do: safe, punctual, luxurious transportation for clients who value service and trust. Our tagline says it best—“Where Comfort Meets Class in Every Mile.”
What I want readers to know is simple: if you’re in the Lake Oconee area and need to get to the Atlanta airport, Augusta, or just want a safe, stylish night out, SkyView Comfort Ride Services is your local, trusted option. You’re not just booking a ride—you’re booking peace of mind and a personal connection with the owner who takes pride in every single trip.
How do you think about luck?
Whether you call it luck, God’s blessing, provision, or fate, I believe success always carries a mix of those elements. Yes, you need to work hard, have a sound business plan, understand your market, and consistently deliver five-star service—but there are factors beyond your control that shape outcomes.
Just in the last week, for example, I’ve seen two major shutdowns on I-20. One was a four-hour closure after a serious accident, and another blocked three of four lanes the very next day. In both cases, I was either able to find a way around or happened to be driving in the opposite direction. Situations like that remind me how much we depend on more than just skill. No matter how careful or experienced you are, when you see those kinds of accidents, you can’t help but pause, pray for those involved, and be thankful you made it home safely.
That’s the daily reality of driving in and out of Atlanta. Even the safest driver can’t control the unpredictable—a motorist cutting across four lanes at high speed, an accident that brings traffic to a standstill, or a sudden weather shift. Every day I operate, there’s a measure of gratitude that my clients and I get where we need to go safely.
I also consider myself fortunate in where and when I started this business. Lake Oconee is a unique market—high-end residents, retirees, executives, and Ritz-Carlton guests all needing reliable service. There was a gap here, and I happened to have both the health, energy, and passion to step into it. That combination of timing and opportunity feels like more than coincidence.
So yes, I’ve worked hard to understand my niche, meet the strict requirements for licensing and insurance, and build a five-star brand. But I never take for granted the role that blessings, good fortune, or “luck” play. Without health, safety on the road, and a community that had a genuine need, none of this would have been possible.
