Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty McClain.
Hi Misty, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey in early childhood education and discovered the power of yoga while teaching in my own preschool classroom. I saw how simple movement and mindfulness practices could completely shift the energy in the room and help kids regulate, focus, and feel more confident. That experience inspired me to get certified in kids yoga and eventually start Little Mindful Yogis in 2019.
Today, we bring yoga and mindfulness to 13 schools in Atlanta. Through our programs and teacher trainings, we help kids and educators experience the same calm and connection that first inspired me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As we grew to more schools and we needed more teachers I knew it was important to create and train my staff on a unique curriculum that focused on all aspects of yoga, not just movement. Offering them a path while still allowing them to find their voice is something we’re proud to always be working on.
It’s been fun finding a balance of our curriculum and encouraging the teachers to bring their individuality and creativity to classes.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Little Mindful Yogis brings yoga and mindfulness directly into schools, offering programs that help children build focus, confidence, and emotional awareness in a fun and accessible way. We specialize in making yoga engaging for all ages — from preschoolers to teens — using creative themes, music, games, and hands-on mindfulness activities.
What really makes us special is our heart-centered approach and the foundation we give our teachers. Every instructor is trained with the Little Mindful Yogis curriculum I developed, so classes are consistent, intentional, and developmentally appropriate. Our goal isn’t just to teach yoga poses — it’s to give kids lifelong tools to manage stress, express themselves, and feel calm and connected both in and out of the classroom.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We use a few fun REALLY fun kids books in our classes that I’d encourage parents to check out.
– Mindful Monkey, Happy Panda by Lauren Alderfer
– Nearly anything by Gabi Garcia, they discuss some tough concepts (like listening to our bodies) in a fun, approachable way
