Hidden Gems: Meet Myiesha Williams of Pressed By Pocahontas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myiesha Williams.

Hi Myiesha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always had a thing for hair, like ever since a little girl! I started out just doing my classmate’s hair in high school, never really thought that it would turn into my career, I just wanted to make enough money to get my nails done at the time. After completing high school, I immediately set foot into the working world, but I always kind of just fid hair on the side, until one day I found myself unemployed and in a panic. I went back and forth on trying to find another job as good as the one I just lost and doing hair full-time. Of course, I decided to get serious and make hair my business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. But then as I think about it, I don’t really think it’s supposed to be, those obstacles, whether they are big or small, you’re supposed to go through them. Those obstacles and how you overcome them is what shape your business. The toughest struggle for me would have to be a mix between trying to stay current and keeping up with all the new hair trends and managing my websites. (I have 2 sites, my booking website and my PressedByPocahontas website where I sell merch such as hair and cosmetics)

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in weaving, whether it be braids or extensions, I love all things weave! I feel like I’m most known for braiding. Even though I try to stay current and I offer several different extension services, braiding is where I started and ill always be known as a braider. I would say, what sets me apart from others would be my passion for hair. I love what I do. That’s very important because you have to be confident in what you do especially in the business of making women feel beautiful. I feel that my clients have a certain level on comfort when being styled by me. I pride myself on providing a good stylist to client relationship. My brand started with me just braiding and selling bundles and eventually expanding into more. (More styles and products; lipgloss eyeshadow, matte lipsticks, etc.) I offer services such as knotless braids, extension and weavings, custom coloring, traditional braids, sew-ins, wig installs…….. pretty much you name it, I can do it!

What does success mean to you?
I would define success as the achievement of goals/expectations set within my business. I’m always going to view my business as a success, big or small because I’m constantly setting goals for myself within my business and as long as I am obtaining everything I set out to while keeping my clients satisfied, that’s all I need.
