Today we’d like to introduce you to Na’Stassia Joy-Daye.
Hi Na’Stassia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my business during the pandemic. I’m in the hospitality business, and when Covid came, I had to get rid of 35 people on my staff with no warning. I arrived at work one day, and my General Manager said, we have to let go of all the staff today. I didn’t even know if I was going to have a job. That was one of the most difficult times in my career. Can you imagine telling all those people today is your last day due to Covid, and I don’t know when you will return? I thought about the ladies who’ve been on my team for years, dedicated to that job. What were they going to do? It was then I realized I needed to work for myself. I needed to do something that was going to always be beneficial to others. I didn’t want anybody coming to tell me, today I have to let you go. I thought about what can I do, what can I start, and what am I good at? The first thing that came to me was cleaning, but what could I do related to cleaning? It was then I decided to start a cleaning business. I made homemade flyers and started passing them out. After weeks of not getting any calls, I was feeling like what am I doing? Nobody don’t want anyone in their home at this time, but I didn’t stop. I went out every day with my son passing flyers out and going to neighborhoods knocking on doors intruding myself. I remember like it was yesterday when I got my first call I was so excited! And from then by business grew from word of mouth. I was doing four houses in a neighborhood just from my first client.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m originally from Durham NC, a mother of 3, a family oriented woman and owner of Njoy Cleaning Services LLC. For the past 13 years I worked many positions in the hospitality field, ending with the title of Executive Housekeeper for 10 years. I moved to Georgia 6 years ago because I was offered a position as an Executive Housekeeper in Duluth, Ga. My vision came to a reality when Covid started to spread, forcing many businesses to shut down and close. No one was traveling and business was slow for the hotel market which caused hours to be cut. I was forced to get rid of my entire housekeeping team and the way things were looking I didn’t know how long “I” was going to be employed. I needed to think of something quick and fast to support my family and keep income coming in, so I put my managerial skill and cleaning expertise together and decided to start my own cleaning service.
During the time I decided to start my business a lot of people weren’t letting people they didn’t know in their homes. And the fact that Covid was rapidly spreading, didn’t make things any easier. But I stuck to my plan, whole heartedly, printing flyers going door to door introducing my business and the services I offered as well as promoting on different social media platforms. I got t-shirts and jogger suits made with my logo on them and that became my everyday wear,I became my brand.
In the paragraph for sharing a bit more about my business I found a grammar typo. For the sentence “Over the years I’m blessed the way my business have grown” it should be “Over the years I’m blessed the way my business has grown”.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
