Hidden Gems: Meet Natalie Hogg of Method Q

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Hogg.

Natalie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m the daughter of a nurse and a general contractor/entrepreneur – my parents taught me a lot about being self-sufficient, kind-hearted and cautious. I entered my adulthood with a high tolerance for risk. I love pushing boundaries and taking chances on opportunities and people I believe in – and over the past year or so that meant betting on myself.

I played it safe for the first decade of my career, and now that I’ve entered my second decade, I’m taking everything I learned from corporate America and shaking it up a bit by providing an “out-of-the-office” viewpoint. This external point of view can be valuable to internal marketing teams.

I’m absolutely an early adopter if I believe in something which pairs well with my creative side. I wanted to be a musician growing up, and in some way, I’ve fulfilled that dream. I conduct a team of experts to achieve a vision or goal (similar to how I used to mix music). I partner with companies ranging from $1M to $50M in annual revenue to help them make a storytelling masterpiece. I also still play music on the side, of course.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. I’ve had many struggles and I assume I will have many more – but I try to always focus on the lesson and motivation that comes from challenges.

One small story stands out and always makes me chuckle to myself.

In high school, I walked into my newspaper class to a group of students reading my article out loud laughing at how poorly it was written. This was a low point for me, but instead of letting it defeat me, I ended up winning photographer of the year for the newspaper in a county-wide competition. In the end, I earned two degrees that are centered around writing – journalism with an emphasis in PR and public and political communication.

Today, I’ve built my own business leveraging my experience writing at companies over the last decade. So, my message to anyone reading this is you will likely always be underestimated, so never find your value externally.

Also, never give up because you can be good at anything you put your mind to.

As you know, we’re big fans of Method Q. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Method Q is a marketing consulting company that combines strategy and research to help B2B companies $1M-$50M+ in revenue generate demand and capture more in-market buyers. We bring a full marketing team with expertise in content, demand generation, demand capture, digital marketing and more, working on your schedule and with your priorities to save you time and money.

During economic turmoil marketing and sales teams are often the first teams cut. As we saw when 2020 hit, most companies scaled down their marketing teams. Now, amid inflation as companies look to re-scale, they’re having trouble finding the right candidates within the right budgets

I founded Method Q in 2021 after experiencing the volatility of in-house marketing myself. I’m a builder and I like to scale quickly. I’ve found it to be much easier and more successful doing this as an external resource to companies, particularly those looking to grow quickly and efficiently.

Method Q has a founding principle of promoting diversity and goodwill. Our tagline is Noteworthy, Quality and Heartfelt. Every Method Q success aims to bring our world one step closer to equity and inclusion. For example, we frequently have 2-3 non-profit clients on our roster, in which we happily give our time because we support their cause.

We offer marketing coaching, consulting and services to various parties, including the sports arena, to help organizations promote themselves and truly practice diversity.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I learned to never give up and that nothing is permanent. Before, I mentioned my high school journalism story. Instead of becoming insecure and shutting down, I doubled down on finding other ways to be successful. In 2021, I took this same lesson to inspire the launch of my own company and I’ll never look back. I was ready to invest in myself after many years of learning what does and doesn’t work as an in-house marketer.

I’ve also learned that investing in diverse groups has a huge payoff. I absolutely love my team and they love the work they do. By giving EVERYONE an opportunity to flex their skills, grow, experiment and participate, you get the best of everyone available to you. This allows us to deliver the best work to our clients and is a huge differentiator to the talent you traditionally see in a workplace.
