Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Jones
Hi Natasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Southside Jamaica Queens, NY. According to stereotypes, I was destined to be a statistic. However, I was exposed to a hardworking family that instilled education and consistency into us. I remember getting my first big girl job as an overnight Sleep Technician and watching the entire staff continue their college education online at night while we had downtown from watching others sleep. It dawned on me that I needed to be apart of this and went to nursing school. Fast forward, as a RN I found interest in the most critical areas of patient care such as ICU and the ER. Our patient populations are challenging which demands nurse in this setting to learn more than average. Of course during the pandemic, burnout was a real issue for all professions and specific to healthcare the demand increased providing workers an opportunity to find pathways out of the bedside. I took advantage of this and started an Occupational Health Onsite Clinic to provide support for safety sensitive industries. As I began to serve this community more, it became apparent with my nursing background safety sensitive employees need access to healthcare related services. Furthermore, I became an advocate as the CEO of HD Screening and Laboratory and as the Vice President of Mental Health and Wellness at the African American Women in Trucking Association.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction….” (NKJV, Matthew 7:13-14). To me, a smooth road is synonymous with a wide gate. You can swerve around obstacles on a smooth road because there is lack of resistance. However, a bumpy and narrow road you will have opportunity to meet resistance and grow. For example, as healthcare professional, we get zero training on how to run a business and market ourselves outside the interdependence of a healthcare system. As a result, making many mistakes such as hiring the right people, setting up the right business structure, seeking the right mentorship’s and partnerships early on has set the company up for significant set backs in the beginning.
