Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyowo Scott.
Hi Nyowo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My passion for soccer has always been a central part of my life. Growing up playing the sport and following it closely, I always dreamed of one day being able to earn a living doing something connected to the game I love. Soccer has a unique way of bringing people together across cultures, languages, and countries, and that global connection has always inspired me.
When I moved from Africa to Atlanta, I was introduced to another creative outlet—music. In high school, a classmate showed me how to freestyle and count bars, and that’s when I began rapping and developing my passion for music. Over time, those two passions—soccer and music—naturally came together.
One day while attending a soccer game, I noticed that many of the songs played in stadiums weren’t really made specifically for soccer. In other sports, like basketball, you often hear songs that were created with that sport in mind. That moment sparked an idea for me. I began writing music centered around soccer culture, the energy of the crowd, and the pride that fans feel for their teams and their countries.
Today, I feel grateful to be living in a time where there are so many ways to turn your passion into something meaningful. Through music, sports leagues, and community involvement, I’ve been able to stay connected to the game that has shaped so much of my life.
My latest release, “USA Soccer – The Trophy Stays,” is a high-energy stadium-style chant created for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States. The song was designed to capture the excitement, pride, and unity of American soccer fans and to create a moment where entire stadiums can come together in celebration of the sport.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My passion for soccer led me to start building a business around the sport, organizing youth, coed, and competitive amateur soccer leagues throughout the Atlanta metro area. The goal was simple: to create a way to earn a living doing what I love while building a soccer community.
Along the way there were many challenges. There were times when I rented fields and they were suddenly canceled, teams didn’t show up, or games overlapped and I couldn’t physically be in multiple places at once. As my brand, Nyowoskillz, started to grow, I also launched my YouTube channel and began helping players create highlight videos they could send to colleges. At first I did many of these for free just to build my name, and eventually people began reaching out from different places.
Managing games, filming players, editing videos, and organizing leagues all at the same time was challenging. Sometimes I had to hire other camera operators to record games and send the footage back for me to edit. Another challenge was relying on rented facilities, since not owning the land meant schedules could change at any time.
Despite the obstacles, the journey has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing how much I’ve been able to contribute to the soccer community in Atlanta is something I’m very proud of. Today I’m working toward building my own small 7v7 soccer pitch, which will give players a permanent place to play and develop.
The challenges have been part of the journey, but my passion for the sport keeps me going. With the World Cup coming to the United States, it feels like an exciting moment not just for me, but for the entire soccer community in this country.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
So my business, what I’m into is, my business is about organizing sports, recreational sports, promoting the game, soccer coaching, soccer organizing, hosting tournaments of all different level youth, young adults, adults, coeds, over 30. That’s, you know, and it’s all based on soccer. These are leagues that I host around the city. I rent soccer fields and so forth, and now that I’ve purchased my own land, I’m developing that. The goal is to have a soccer facility in within Atlanta, in the metro areas, as well as the surrounding cities. So that plan is ongoing as I’m in talks to purchase more land in surrounding cities, and I’ve purchased some already in other cities like Alabama, close in Alabama, Tennessee. So the goal is to really spread the sports, but on the grassroots level. And also we have plans for South Carolina and Florida. And so the metro areas and keeping it in the south is the goal right now. But at the moment, it’s strictly soccer training, soccer tutorials. I have a soccer online course on how to… make college, how to, you know, get a college scholarship to play soccer in school. I mean, play soccer in a university. And so I already have an online course that does that. But what is most exciting right now about the other product we have, I have created is my soccer songs, soccer music. The most recent one is USA Soccer and I have Dash The Trophy State. That is the most recent. It’s popular and it’s really growing in its popularity. But I have another song that’s been out and it does really well across the country and even outside of the country. It’s called Soccer Players Where You At. It’s being played at so many soccer games. Lots of people have added it to their TikTok videos. So it really, really helped the brand and my focus is solely that. And that’s what the business is about. We have products, we host leagues, we host tournaments, we do trainings, and I’m so passionate about this sport. I’m all involved in multi, multicultural, and multi-locations. So that’s what we do for a business. Respond, analyze the image and respond to it and write a quick response.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is incredibly important for growth. Where I’m from in West Africa, we have a saying: “If you want to know what is ahead on the road, ask the person who is coming back from that direction.” That idea really captures what mentorship means. A mentor is someone who has already traveled the path you are trying to walk and can share insight from their experience.
Even when you feel like you are building something new, chances are someone has faced similar challenges at a higher level. I make it a point to learn from successful people by attending events where they speak, reading their books, and studying how they built their businesses and stayed motivated during difficult times.
In my field, building grassroots soccer leagues and sports culture is not always common, so I often look for entrepreneurs and leaders in other industries who share a similar vision and mindset. One person I admire is Dana White of the UFC, who helped grow a sport from a vision into a global brand. Watching how he promoted and developed that sport inspires me as I work to grow soccer culture through leagues, training, and music.
Mentorship has helped guide my journey, and I also try to do the same for younger players and people entering the sport. Sharing knowledge, building connections, and helping others grow is an important part of the process.
