Hidden Gems: Meet Phylicia Taylor-Grant of Phyli’s Virtual Office

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phylicia Taylor-Grant.

Phylicia Taylor-Grant

Hi Phylicia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started in 2014 when I stumbled into the virtual assistance realm while helping a friend with social media management. Little did I know that this seemingly small act would ignite my passion for the virtual assistant industry. Through relentless research and honing my skills, I uncovered the true potential of this career path.

My first job was with a Canadian Immigration Company in Canada doing social media management, data entry, and appointment setting. As a newbie, I had no idea I was all of that. All I knew was that I was helping out a friend while earning from being on my phone all the time. Why not? After careful consideration, I decided to do market research to find out how I could improve my skills to become the most sought-after Virtual Assistant in my region. It was then I realized that Virtual Assistance was an actual career. And the journey began. Research became a big part of my days and nights until I figured out how to start excelling as a Virtual Assistant. During the period of research, I was also engaged in paid coaching from some of the best in the business, developing the skills that I already possessed and learning new ones that would be needed to bring out the leader in me in my own space.

That was when the passion for Digital Marketing blossomed.

January 1, 2018, was the day my colleagues (a whole department of us) and I were told without any warning that our careers at the establishment had come to an end, effective immediately. By this time, I was already six months pregnant with my daughter and diagnosed with a slipped disc and pinched nerve. That was hell! It was then in 2019; I made the bold decision to transition from the corporate world to embrace the full-time virtual assistant lifestyle in 2019. It has been an awe-inspiring journey filled with freedom, fulfillment, and purpose. It brings joy to my heart when I see my clients enjoying the freedom they long for, knowing that their business is being handled with care.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Along the way, I have experienced many obstacles. I remember family members not being supportive as they did not know at the time that working remotely was ‘a thing’. That season taught me how to block out the negativity and work acidiously towards my goals no matter what. Also, I can remember those moments when I thought about how will I make this work on those low-income months, but as I matured in the field, managing the business became easier. After a few years, you learn how to pivot if needs be, you learn to grow a thick skin so the ‘no’ does not send you running for the hills and what persons have to say about you and the career path that you have chosen has nothing to do with you.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Phyli’s Virtual Office?
As a full-service Virtual Assistance company, our office is here to help business owners work less and earn more and we also turn individuals into business owners so that they can experience the freedom to create wealth. We specialize in Digital Marketing to include Web Design, Course Design, Social Media Management as well as Virtual Assistant Services to include administrative duties and customer service duties. I also offer consultations for business owners who need help with building or expanding businesses. One of my passions is to teach business owners how to use the same skill, product, or service that they have to earn in 22 different ways from it. I also teach people how to create their own online businesses and run them successfully…

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
As business owners, to have the success you want in life, you will have to take some risks whether large or small. To be honest, even selecting who to go to for coaching to become the person I am today in business was a risk when I did not know them personally to know if the results they said they could give were true. It was a risk for me also when I left a stable 9-5 brick-and-mortar to become a work-from-home mom. Looking back at it all, I would not trade this freedom I have for anything in the world. It is because of the decisions I made years ago that I am able to be present for my daughter when she needs me.
