Hidden Gems: Meet Refoni McCoy of Planet Earth 404

Today we’d like to introduce you to Refoni McCoy.

Refoni, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey as a chef began in my teenage years, working alongside my father in his restaurant. That early exposure to the kitchen taught me discipline, creativity, and the power of food to bring people together. What started as helping out quickly turned into a true passion for cooking and hospitality.
Over the years, that passion grew into ownership and operation of three restaurants and a food truck, where I was able to refine my culinary style and business skills. I’ve had the privilege of catering over 109 events, from intimate gatherings to large celebrations, each one allowing me to create memorable experiences through food.
Cooking has always been more than a career for me it’s an expression of love, culture, and connection. Every dish I create is rooted in my story, my experience, and my genuine love for feeding people and making them feel cared for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not always been smooth. Like many entrepreneurs in the restaurant industry, I faced real challenges along the way from employee theft to structural issues within the buildings themselves. Each obstacle tested my patience, leadership, and resolve.
However, those experiences never defeated me. Instead, they strengthened me. I learned how to protect my business, advocate for myself, and adapt quickly in difficult situations. Every challenge became a lesson that sharpened my skills, deepened my resilience, and made me a stronger chef and business owner.
Those struggles shaped who I am today and gave me the confidence to navigate adversity with grace, determination, and an unwavering love for what I do.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is a full-service private chef and catering brand built on passion, experience, and purpose. I specialize in creating elevated, flavorful meals that feel personal and memorable whether it’s an intimate dinner, a private celebration, or a large scale event. No event is too big or too small. Every experience is treated with the same level of care, creativity, and excellence.
Beyond private chef services and catering, I also create and sell signature honey and hot sauce products that reflect my love for bold, comforting flavors. What truly sets my brand apart is that we don’t just serve food we create an experience. From the first conversation to the final plate, every detail is infused with intention, warmth, and love.
Community is at the heart of everything I do. Throughout the year, I actively give back through community service and by cooking for those less fortunate. Food has always been my way of serving, connecting, and uplifting others, and that mission is woven into my brand.
I’m most proud of building a brand rooted in resilience, authenticity, and heart. We travel for events, adapt to our clients’ needs, and bring passion into every kitchen we enter. I want readers to know that when you choose my brand, you’re choosing more than great food you’re choosing care, connection, and an unforgettable culinary experience.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about the city is its incredible diversity. There’s such a rich mix of cultures, flavors, and people it makes the city vibrant and inspiring, especially as a chef. What I like least? Definitely the traffic! It can be a challenge, but it’s a small trade off for all the energy and opportunities the city offers.
