Hi Remona, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been interested in hair and beauty, When I was growing up in Jamaica, I often did hair on the weekends – both for free and for pay. This allowed me to develop my skillset and lay the foundation for what would become my business. After moving to America to attend college, I had to tap into my creative side. I knew that hair services were always needed all over the world, so in 2013 I decided to print some black and white flyers and distributed them locally. I didn’t think that method was quite effective though, so around that time Facebook was starting to become popular, so I created a Facebook account and sent out hundreds of random friend requests to people within the area I lived. That’s when things really took off for me!
In 2014, I decided to take my hobby of doing hair and turn it into a business. I started by learning all of the latest trends and techniques and also launched my own hair extensions brand. In 2018, while I was in the middle of getting my master’s degree in criminal justice and cyber security, I found out that I was pregnant. This was another unforeseen blessing that led me to tap back into my creative side. I knew that I needed to have a stable income, so I decided to open a brick-and-mortar salon location. Within just a few short years, I was able to grow my business to six figures and also launch my own hair care line called “D’Haute Beauty.” Because of my willingness to invest in myself and my business, I have been able to create a successful and profitable career that I absolutely love. And it all started with just a hobby and a little bit of Hustle.
Earlier this year, I took things one step further by opening another salon location in Buford, GA. This new location allows me to specialize in hair extensions and medical hair replacements services. Whether it’s adding length and volume with extensions or helping someone regain their confidence after hair loss, I’m grateful to be able to make a difference in the lives of my clients.
In the ever-changing world of hair, one thing remains constant – my passion for making people look and feel their best. I started my career as a stylist over 15 years ago, and since then, I’ve never stopped learning and evolving. My work has taken me all over the world, and I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most talented people in the industry. I am dedicated to providing my clients with the highest quality service possible, and I look forward to serving the Buford community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting and operating a few businesses by myself has been by no means the smoothest. There have been tons of obstacles along the way, from balancing everything to finding capitals to grow the business to keeping up with marketing to dealing with employees. However, I find that constantly marketing has been one of the biggest challenges.
Marketing is the bread and butter of any business. You can have the best product or service in the world, but if nobody knows about it, you’re not going to make any money. That’s why marketing is so important, and it’s also why it can be such a challenge. There are a million different ways to market your business, and it can be tough to figure out which ones are the most effective. There are also a lot of different costs associated with marketing, and it can be difficult to find the right balance between spending enough to get the word out there and not spending so much that you bankrupt your business. I’ve found that the best way to approach marketing is to start small and gradually increase your budget as you start to see results. It’s also important to be flexible and willing to try new things because what works today might not work tomorrow. Marketing is a constantly evolving field, and the businesses that succeed are the ones that are able to change with the times.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
While there are many qualities that can contribute to success, I believe that perseverance is the most important. No matter how talented or intelligent someone may be, they will not achieve their goals if they give up at the first sign of adversity. Perseverance is what allows people to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. It is the quality that separates those who succeed from those who fail.
I have seen firsthand the importance of perseverance. In my own life, there have been many times when I have wanted to give up. But each time, I dug deep and found the strength to keep going. And each time, I am proud to say that I accomplished my goals. Because I persevered, I am the person I am today.
If you want to be successful in life, never give up on your dreams. Be like a sprinter who keeps running even when they are tired, because they know that the finish line is within reach. Remember, success is not a sprint; it is a marathon. With perseverance, you can cross the finish line and achieve anything you set your mind to.
