Hi Renay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started in 2007 with nothing but a dollar and a dream. Back in 2005, I moved to Conyers, Ga, and quickly realized there was a serious gap in the market,a beauty supply wasn’t anywhere in sight. As someone who loved beauty products, I found it also shocking that I’ve never stepped foot in a Black-Owned Beauty Supply.
Determined to change that, I took a leap of faith and walked away from a high-paying job to turn my dream into reality. In July 2007, I opened my doors with a handful of products, little knowledge about hair colors, but a whole lot of heart and determination.
From day one, I focused on what truly mattered: offering top-notch customer service and listening to my community. I made it a point to stock the products my customers asked for, building both my store and strong relationships with people around me,
That dream, which started with a single dollars, has grown into something I’m incredibly proud off,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a beauty supply store has been far from a smooth ride. From the very beginning, I faced obstacle after obstacle. The beauty supply industry wasn’t exactly know for being inclusive, and trying to get certain brands and products for my store often felt like pulling teeth. On top of that, I had to learn the ins and outs of weaves and braiding hair, which was a whole new world for me.
I remember customers telling me, ” You don’t have enough products, you won’t last long,” and that stung. But instead of letting it discourage me, it fueled my determination. Every challenge became a lesson, and with every setback was an opportunity to grow stronger and more resilient.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m the proud owner of Natalya’s Beauty Supply, and for 18 incredible years, my store has been built on one simple foundation, exceptional customer service and a genuine connection with my customers. While I may not carry every product out there, what I do offer is a carefully curated selection that’s shaped by the needs and preferences of the people I serve. My goal is always to evolve, continuously growing and adapting to meet my customers needs.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see the future of my business expanding more online, reaching new customers and growing beyond the walls of my store. As I get older, I look forward to the time when I can retire, knowing my hard work has laid the foundation for something bigger. The ultimate dream is to see my business passed down through generations, while continuing to serve and empower others years to come.
