Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Jones.
Robyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A week after graduating from college in 1992, I began my corporate career with the Equitable Company, now known as AXA. In 1995 my mom needed a quadruple heart bypass, and as her caregiver, I experienced a part of corporate America I did not like. I left the company and worked for my church. In that season of change and challenge, I decided to start my entrepreneurial journey.
In 2000, I founded RC Tax & Accounting, LLC, and two years later, my mom suffered heart failure and passed away. My mom always told me, “You have what it takes to be your own boss.” My passion has always been to serve and add value to others. In my accounting practice, I intentionally built relationships with my clients and aimed to empower them personally and professionally. In 2018 I joined the Maxwell Leadership Team to help maximize my speaking, coaching, and training skills. In January 2022, I officially launched my second business, Innovative Leadership Solutions, LLC, and became a Certified DISC Behavioral Analysis Trainer and Consultant.
My passion and purpose fully collided, and in May 2023, I decided to sell most of my tax & accounting book of business to focus solely on Innovative Leadership Solutions, LLC. Finding my “why” was crucial in being free to serve those I am called to and be a positive influence and voice in my community. Innovative Leadership Solutions, LLC was recognized as a 2023 Small Business to Watch in Douglas County in July.
In addition to being a CEO/Founder of two businesses, I serve in ministry with my husband, a bi-vocational pastor. I am also the mother of two adult children and a Yorkie fur baby. I love public speaking and serve as the 2023-2024 President of Toastmasters of West Georgia. I am also an active member of the American Business Women Association (ABWA) Douglasville Charter Chapter and the Douglas-Carroll-Paulding Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I also sit on the Division of Business Administration-Academic Advisory Board for Talladega College.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I suffered loss and endured a lot of struggles in many forms along the way.
I lost both my parents in ten years. My mom transitioned in 2002, and my dad in 2012. In 2008, I went through a heart-wrenching divorce and was diagnosed with Lupus in 2010. My daughter went through a life-changing medical experience in 2018, which pulled heavily on my heartstrings as a mom.
In February 2021, I spent a week in the hospital thinking I was experiencing heart issues, only to discover that I was suffering from cervical radiculopathy. Developing a new normal in any facet of life or business is not always easy and requires intentionality and discipline.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Innovative Leadership Solutions, LLC propels entrepreneurs, teams, and organizations toward success with transformative coaching, impactful speaking, and empowering training and workshops.
What sets us apart is our “Lift & Shift” framework. We ignite action, guiding clients on creative pathways that lead to extraordinary personal and professional outcomes.
Lift & Shift is not a conventional methodology. It’s designed to help individuals and groups ‘lift’ themselves out of their present constraints and ‘shift’ into a more effective, efficient, and innovative operational mode. But how exactly does it work?
First, we ‘lift.’ This means we collaboratively identify limiting beliefs, obstacles, or practices holding you or your organization back. I use various tools, including behavioral assessments, reflective exercises, and engaging workshops, to reveal these hidden barriers. This ‘lifting’ process brings issues to light, helping us to understand the root causes that hinder growth.
Then, we ‘shift.’ Here, we take the insights gained from the ‘lift’ process and implement changes to alter the trajectory of your personal or professional life. This could mean developing new life and leadership strategies, building healthier team dynamics, or pivoting your business model. I walk with you every step of the way, ensuring these shifts are sustainable and beneficial.
Our brand is customizable for every person or organization we serve. It is not a one-size-fits-all. Whatever gap clients need to be filled, we take time to discover the best tools and resources to ensure extraordinary and sustainable results.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson learned is the power of pursuing my passion. Discovering the power of pursuing my passion unlocked the gateway to true fulfillment and boundless potential in my life. I had to learn to authentically embrace my passion and purpose and use it as a guiding compass, leading me to a purposeful life filled with enthusiasm, perseverance, and joy. When you align your actions with your deepest interests, you’ll excel in your pursuits and inspire others to follow their hearts. Embrace your passions, and the journey will be as rewarding as the destination.
