Hi Shantaia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a passion for beauty and wellness—it started as a fascination with transformation, not just physical but how people feel after being taken care of. I started my journey in the industry with humble beginnings: I began my career as an esthetician in the summer of 2022, driven by a passion for skincare and a desire to help people feel their absolute best. I started out working in a local spa, where I soaked up every bit of knowledge and hands-on experience I could. My focus from day one has been on creating the ultimate spa experience—one where every client feels pampered, valued, and leaves glowing inside and out. Delivering five-star service isn’t just a goal—it’s my standard.
In the winter of 2023, a colleague and close friend approached me with the idea of opening a boutique spa suite together. That moment sparked the beginning of something special: The Skin Lab Aesthetics. We set out to build more than just a spa—we wanted a space that felt personal, elevated, and results-driven. It’s been a beautiful journey watching our vision come to life and grow.
Simultaneously, I was presented with an exciting opportunity to open a storefront hair salon, Caviar Hair Studio, in the winter of 2023 on Moreland Ave. Alongside my business partner, we launched a concept rooted in community and connection. Our goal was to bring back a sense of fellowship in the beauty industry—something that felt increasingly rare. We created a mixed floor plan salon that features both booths and suites, offering flexibility and collaboration for stylists while creating a warm, welcoming space for clients.
Back at The Skin Lab Aesthetics, things were growing fast. Within a year, my client intake had expanded to over 700. That level of growth was humbling—and also a clear sign that I was outgrowing the suite space. I began to feel the discomfort that comes when you’re ready for the next level. So, in the summer of 2024, I stepped out on faith once again and began searching for a storefront location that could bring my full vision for The Skin Lab Aesthetics to life.
In January 2025, The Skin Lab Aesthetics officially opened its doors on Peters Street. This new chapter is a dream realized, and I truly can’t wait to share with the world everything we’ll be offering. The best is just beginning.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced in opening both The Skin Lab Aesthetics storefront and Caviar Hair Studio was the renovation and buildout process. Transforming a space to meet salon standards—like plumbing, electrical, installing washbowls, styling stations, and creating a welcoming environment—comes with a hefty price tag. On top of that, we ran into unexpected construction delays, which caused the opening dates to be pushed back more than once. It was frustrating at times, but I stayed focused on the bigger picture.
Interestingly, one of the smoothest parts of the journey was building a strong, reliable team. That’s not always the case in this industry—finding stylists who align with your brand, values, and quality standards can be tough. But I was fortunate to attract professionals who understood the vision and were excited to grow with it. In a field where turnover can be high, creating a positive work culture and space where people feel supported has made all the difference.

The Skin Lab Aesthetics is more than just a spa—it’s an experience. We specialize in advanced, results-driven skincare treatments while still embracing the luxury, relaxation, and pampering our clients deserve. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built. We’ve grown almost entirely through word of mouth and client referrals, which speaks volumes. That kind of growth doesn’t come from just offering great facials—it comes from offering a great experience. From the moment someone walks in, we want them to feel cared for, not just treated.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time with my mom in the kitchen, watching her get ready for special occasions. She always took such care in how she looked, from her skincare routine to the way she styled her hair. She would let me try to help—whether it was brushing her hair or picking out a favorite lipstick. I always admired how confident she felt when she looked her best, and I realized how powerful that sense of self-care can be.
That memory stuck with me and inspired my path into the beauty industry. I wanted to create spaces where people could feel the same way—where they could look in the mirror and feel confident and beautiful. It’s part of what drives me to deliver the best experience for my clients every day.
