Hi Shasta, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a native of New Orleans, La. I have resided in Atlanta, Ga for the past 5 years and I love it. My story has had several twists and turns, but I am the better having gone through it all. Those obstacles that I have faced have caused me to emerge as a leader in my community and a leader for the Kingdom of God. I now know God will use everything that we have been through to build and strengthen us. To become leaders that will use our stories (testimonies) to build and encourage other people to stand. That is what my life is all about to show people they can arise from the ashes and live their best life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road has not always been smooth, I have been faced with many challenges. I have experienced homelessness due to a natural disaster, unemployment, loss of both my parents at an early age, foster care, the list goes on and on, but my faith and determination has helped me to pushed pass and overcome them all. Those challenges have fueled my desire to see people free. God gave me the name God’s Love N Action not just as a non-profit name, but to describe who I am. I am God’s Love N Action it is in my DNA, I truly am a lover of people and want the best for all those that come across my path.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Anointed To Live Counseling Services?
I am a certified Christian Counselor and have a counseling service called Anointed to Live Counseling. My specialty is grief counseling, I want people to be aware that grief can manifest in many areas of our lives and not just in death. This service brings hope, restoration and healing through personalized counseling rooted in biblical principles. I have authored a book called God’s Love Endure Forever: True stories of how the Power of God’s love can bring healing, wholeness, restoration, and freedom. Throughout this book, I share personal stories of my life and how God healed me to wholeness.
I have a master’s degree in Human Services which has helped me to develop and structure my non-profit God’s Love N Action Incorporated (GLNA). I founded GLNA in 2018, we are currently located in the Westend of Atlanta. We offer empowerment to the underserved population by training, counseling, and re-building them to become self-sufficient. To date, we have fed hundreds of people by going out each month feeding the homeless with spiritual food as well as natural food. This agency is built upon being the hands and feet of God.
I am currently completing my internship to complete an Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program. Once I have completed the necessary hours, I will test to become a certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. Having this certification, I will be able to reach and help more people.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
For me, finding a mentor was by God’s design. I was not looking for anyone to mentor me, but God knew where He was taking me. He knew that I needed people in my life to guide me in the right direction. I have been blessed to have had some of the most strong and powerful men and women of God to affirm and teach me. All of them encouraged me to be me and not a carbon copy of them, to stand in my own skin. My advice is to take ask God who should mentor you, who should speak into your life, who should affirm and teach you. Sometimes we will choose those that are familiar to us but that is not the person God has designed to lead and guide you. I admonish everyone to trust God in every area of your life. To allow Him to show you what He has had planned for your life since He formed you.
