Today we’d like to introduce you to Shekierra Jones
Hi shekierra , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my vision of my hair business back when covid started. I’ve always had a lot of hair and I use to do my own hair being that I stayed with my dad and he didn’t have much knowledge on how to do a little girls hair. My friends always asked how I did certain styles so I started making hair videos in my kitchen and posted them and they would get a good amount of attention so once covid was over I started doing others hair . I fell in love with it and grew a passion for hair and everything associated with it from natural hair to wigs to the products and so on and i’ve been doing hair since.Back in high school I thought the idea of having my own hair line was only a dream that I could see in my sleep but once I came to atlanta and seen how real and close it was to me I realized that it could be more than a dream with God on my side it could my reality so I prayed on it and I surrounded myself with great company that encouraged me that I could do it. I eventually started my venture and here I am today writing this on my drop day . I have officially dropped my own line of luxury hair by the grace of God!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a business owner isn’t easy especially if you’re a small business. You have to be everything the promoter, the inventor check person, the person that checks emails , and so on. So of course it hasn’t been a smooth ride, but I prayed for times like this so who am I to complain about being busy. One incident I did have with my vendor is them sending me the wrong inventory and it caused me to have to spend more than I anticipated but I handled it with patience.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My brand is a single black owned business, that started from my college dorm room . I started as just a hairstylist and have now upped to providing hair for my clients. At the moment I specialize in wigs and bundles . I feel like my inclusion of God in everything I do keeps me from comparing myself and my brand to others because I know God has his hands on me and everything I touch. I’m most proud of my attention to details when it comes to my business because as a girl I feel like design and the appearance matters that’s why I give all my girls luxury packaging and hair .
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Since Covid-19 I’ve learned that sometimes a stand still is needed so you can sit back and analyze your life and figure out what needs to change , so you can prosper.
