Hidden Gems: Meet Stefan Goddard-Johnson of Emerald Movers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefan Goddard-Johnson.

Hi Stefan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Emerald Movers in 2014 after spending a few years working with/managing another moving company. During that time, I gained a deep understanding of the industry—what worked, what didn’t, and what customers truly valued. I saw an opportunity to build something better. When I first started Emerald Movers, it was truly a family effort. It was just my dad, my brothers, and a few close friends helping out on moves. We didn’t have a big crew or a fleet of trucks—just a strong work ethic, a commitment to doing things the right way, and a shared belief that we could build something great. As the business grew, we relocated to Marietta, Georgia, and expanded our services across the metro Atlanta area.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting Emerald Movers was a serious grind. I had the experience, but no brand, no online presence — just a commitment to doing things right. Earning trust was the first hurdle. In a city full of moving companies, we had to prove ourselves one job at a time.

I was on the truck daily, handling the moves and still juggling scheduling, quotes, and calls at night. It was physically and mentally draining. Hiring the right crew took time too. I had to build structure — clear roles, fair pay, and accountability — to create a team that took pride in their work.

Pricing was also a lesson. At first, I undercharged just to get jobs, but I quickly realized we needed to charge our worth to grow and protect our quality.

The early days were about survival and showing people we weren’t just another moving company — we were building something built on care, consistency, and respect. And that’s what’s kept us moving forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Emerald Movers is a family-operated moving company based out of Marietta, Georgia, serving the metro Atlanta area since 2014. We specialize in local and long-distance residential moves, furniture deliveries, staging, packing, labor-only services, and junk removal. But what we’re really known for is our care — the way we handle people’s belongings as if they were our own.

What sets us apart is consistency and professionalism. Our team is full-time, trained, and held to a high standard — from wearing company uniforms to how we wrap and protect every item. We don’t just show up with muscle; we show up with intention. We emphasize communication, punctuality, and respect in every move. Whether we’re relocating a family across town or helping a designer stage a new space, we’re committed to delivering quality without compromise.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built. Hundreds of 5-star reviews, long-term partnerships with realtors and designers, and a loyal client base that continues to refer us — that’s what makes it all worth it. Emerald Movers isn’t just about trucks and boxes; it’s about people, relationships, and getting the job done right.

If there’s one thing I want your readers to know, it’s that moving doesn’t have to be stressful. With the right team, it can actually be smooth — even enjoyable. That’s what we aim to deliver every time.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the most important mentors in my life has been my father. He’s the one who taught me the value of hard work, consistency, and treating people right — lessons I’ve carried into every part of my business. Just listening to his advice over the years gave me a blueprint for leadership and integrity, even before I had the title of “owner.”

When it comes to networking, my advice is to be present and genuine. Some of the best connections I’ve made have come from simply showing up — whether at local business events, on moving jobs, or through Instagram conversations. You don’t need to be flashy, just real. Share what you do, stay curious about others, and be willing to listen more than you talk.

Social media has also been a big tool for me. I’ve built relationships just by posting consistently and being transparent about the work we do at Emerald Movers. It helps people see your character before they even meet you.

At the end of the day, mentorship and networking both come down to trust. Be someone people can rely on, and the right relationships will follow.
