Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefanie Jackson LMFT.
Hi Stefanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Being a therapist was a dream that I stumbled on when I was in the 7th grade. Older people had often come to me and shared with me that they felt I was wise at a very young age but I didn’t know what to do with that. Then In 7th grade, I began reading the book Addicted by Zane. I had no business reading this but I was fascinated by the fact that there was a job that you could do that allowed you to just talk to people. From there, I was hooked. I decided that this was the path. I wanted to help people with their problems this evolved to wanting to help couples work through their problems to improve the family system and decrease the divorce rate. This path led me to FortValley State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology and onward to Valdosta State University for my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. It was this Master’s Degree program that changed my life and shifted my perspective on how people and the world work. After graduate school, my journey took me to Virginia where I spent four years pursuing my professional license doing Intensive In-home Therapy in a small rural town called Danville. I received my License in Marriage and Family Therapy in March of 2020, just before the Covid Pandemic hit. In May 2021 I took the leap to start Divine Mind Therapeutics with my best friend and business partner Shannon Johnson and actualized the dream of a 12 y/o me. I had always been advised by my father to get into business for myself and doing so has opened a whole new world for me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road so far has been an interesting one. The biggest challenge is navigating on your own. There isn’t a road map or to-do list that you can check all of the boxes off to be a success the way that you envision. There is a lot of fear and doubt that makes the road bumpy, and the struggle is a battle against me. I am learning to be disciplined and consistent and constantly remind myself that I am guided and as long as I stay in alignment with what I have set out to do I will get where I want to be.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Divine Mind Therapeutics is a black female-owned virtual private therapy practice that services individuals, couples, and families with adult children in Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. We are in the business of freeing the minds and hearts of our clients from the labels that have been ascribed to them that limit, degrade and undermine them. We help them by assisting and guiding them in tapping into the positive power that resides within. The services and programs designed for DMT clients are geared toward them launching from DMT with the power and energy to live the life they desire. We offer corresponding products that enhance the services by keeping our clients engaged and actively using their newfound skills outside of the therapy room. What we have to offer clients is positive power.
Our services benefit our clients by giving them control of themselves, their thoughts, emotions, and actions. Our therapy provides space to process, heal, learn, grow and change. By empowering clients with positive power, they open up their options and have more choices, they have a better understanding of who they are and where they’re going, and they are granted clarity and most importantly the ability to make the most of their time. Divine Mind Therapeutics has clients from all walks of life but we specifically cater to people of color and women in middle and upper-level corporate positions in IT, law, healthcare, and government. I work with couples is geared toward improving communication and understanding of each partner. I work with individuals consists of working with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life stressors. Divide my therapeutics is unlike any other virtual private therapy practice in mini ways.
We offer our clients The option of doing therapy through a monthly subscription instead of paying per session. Our clients get biweekly therapy appointments to assist them in keeping the cost of therapy low And giving them space to actually implement the strategies and skills that we provide. As well as the option to have daytime sessions from 10 AM to 4 PM or engage in evening sessions from 5 PM to 12 AM. For couples and families, we offer co-therapy. This is essentially getting two therapists for the price of one. We don’t believe that people have to spend years in therapy, we look forward to the time when our clients feel ready to fire us because that means that we’ve done a good job with them. That means that they feel capable and powerful to handle what life throws at them. We strive for therapy to be just like going to your annual doctor’s appointment and we’re prepared to dismantle the stigma and barriers that keep people of color from getting the help they need and deserve.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
To those that are just starting out, my advice to you and the consistent advice that I live by myself is that it doesn’t have to be perfect for you to start. Just do it. Take the leap and perfect it as you go, learn as you go and grow as you go. Take your time; you will arrive in due time until then, enjoy the ride and continue writing the story.
