Hidden Gems: Meet Tameka Shearer of Kreative Kids Family Daycare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tameka Shearer.

Hi Tameka, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Greetings, My name is Tameka Shearer, the owner of Kreative Kids Family Daycare, a licensed home daycare and a graduate of Kaplan University with a Associate and Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA in 2017.I am the mother of 6 children ages 20-31, and the grandmother of 1 granddaughter, and welcoming another granddaughter in April. Kreative Kids Family Daycare was started on April 7, 2007. What started as a dream became a reality and it continues to serves many families. I have provided childcare for over 300 families in 19 years. We are a household name to the Ellenwood community. I have received several recognition that I am extremely proud of; being selected as one of Georgia’s Best Childcare in 2023 and 2024, named 1 of the top 3 daycares in Ellenwood GA by Google in 2025, and maintaining a 2 star Quality Rated program. The children that complete my program continue to strive for excellence when reaching grade school. Some are honor students, in college, the military, receiving athletic scholarships, and one became Valedictorian of her elementary school with the highest GPA in the 5th grade.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Over the 19 years in my childcare business, I have faced a few challenges. In 2020, we faced COVID. This challenged my childcare enrollment tremendously. I continued to provide care for the few families during this pandemic. Fast forward to 2024, My husband unexpected death challenged my family and also questioned if I would continue childcare. Today I still wake up at 5 am and start my day showing up for the kids that bring joy to my life. Childcare is not a job for me, it is my passion.

Kreative Kids is not the typical childcare program. We offer a nurturing environment for families in a home setting. Majority of the children come in as infants and leave at school age. As the owner/director I am able to have genuine communication and connection with the children and parents. The parents support me in everything we do whether it’s a family activity or a field trip.We love to create memories with yearly graduations and celebrate milestones with birthday parties or holiday celebrations. I am highly recommend by my peers to parents that are seeking childcare. The name Kreative Kids describes my daycare. The children use their creativity to create the perfect learning environment for them to grow and prepare for the next chapter in their lives. We also offer homework assistance and tutoring for our after-school program. In 2018, I launched a learning material online store Kreative Kurriculums and Krafts. This store provides materials that can assist home providers like myself, or childcare centers with circle time boards, craft kits, sensory bins or lesson plan binders. Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We offer prayer, praise and worship to the children to start our day. I read my morning devotional Mountain Top Daily Devotional by Dr. D.K.Olukoya. I also meet with my childcare coach/mentor Lashon Carter quarterly by phone or Zoom.
