Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Nellum.
Tanisha , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began with a simple thought back in 2017. Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher, so I followed that passion and pursed my degree in Early Childhood Education. After finishing school, I entered the school system, but quickly realized that everything was centered around test scores instead of the children themselves.
That’s when I decided I want to change my path but not my passion. So in 2017, I started my own business as a licensed in-home provider. After a year of serving families from my home, I took a leap of faith and leased a building in Union City, Ga, transforming it into a fully licensed childcare facility.
Then COVID hit. But I knew it was time to expand. During that season, I purchased a building in Fairburn, GA, which is now the home of A Step at a Time Early Learning. And today, I’m proudly working on my second location while continuing the vision to create quality, child centered early education spaces for families in our community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it also hasn’t been impossible. Anything worth building takes time, patience, and growth. One of the biggest lessons I had to learn was trusting others within my business. Releasing control and allowing people I hire to step in was necessary, not just for me but for the growth of my company. While looking back, every step, every lesson, and every stretch has helped shape the leader I am today.

A Step at a Time Early Learning Academy is a licensed childcare center serving students ages twelve months to five year. We are a one of a kind sough after, high quality school dedicated to giving every child a strong foundation during their early years of learning. What sets us apart is simple: our students don’t just grow they excel. By the time they age out of our program, they transition into grade school performing above grade level fully prepared for academic success.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk taking isa part of my story and truly, it’s a part of anyone’s story who reaches new levels. It pushes you to set goals, raise your standards, and step into the next version of yourself. When you ;earn to channel your inner fears, thoughts, and emotions, you unlock the strength to achieve everything you set out to do. Growth doesn’t come from comfort; it comes from risk’s and courage.
