Hidden Gems: Meet Taylor Alexander of The Brand Flourisher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Alexander.

Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before I dive in, I am excited to return to another Voyage ATL interview as I have rebranded since my initial interview in 2020!

The development of the Brand Flourisher was established through a long journey of self-discovery and overcoming hurdles to be unapologetically confident in my creative abilities. I learned I had a natural ability and passion for developing brands when I joined the Dance Ensemble at GSU (DEGSU) as a college freshman. Once the Atlanta community noticed my success with Dance Ensemble increased brand awareness, various entertainment and local business professionals inquired for assistance with their brand strategy, marketing, and talent casting. At this time, I was in college studying to become a Physical Therapist as my “Plan B” career and no longer pursued this industry after my graduation to focus on Plan A.

Fast forward to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was laid off from an administrative assistant position at a charter school but did not lose hope. I had a gut feeling that everything will be okay and to trust God. I decided to launch my brand development agency, The Brand Flourisher LLC, in September 2020. A few weeks before the launch, I got a job as a talent agent for celebrity choreographers, dancers, influencers, and more. The week of my business launch occurred during the week of one of my first major gigs, agenting the BET Hip Hop Awards. This was an unforgettable experience as an entrepreneur and a talent agent. I worked closely with celebrities and professionals that have been in the industry for over 30 years! As I have freelance experience as a talent agent before this job, I gained so much experience and connections that heightened my confidence and passion to pursue this career independently.

A year later, I received a job opportunity to shift into the influencer industry as a Talent Manager for over 30+ influencers. This experience was the missing piece to flourishing my business. I assisted clients to partner with brands for fashion week, national sales week, modeling campaigns, national brand campaigns, speaking engagements, and more! These experiences inspired me to add management as the missing piece to my business and received a substantial amount of interest by sharing my previous experience online.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road would have been easier if I had been confident in myself and stopped comparing myself to others. Despite my accolades, I did not feel “perfect” to compete against other businesses in a saturated industry. By my 25th birthday, I decided to stop comparing myself to others, be authentic in different aspects of my life, and appreciate my worth. I needed to let go of feeling inadequate and striving to be perfect. All of those items are vital to become a successful business owner.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a push and a pause for me to step out of my comfort zone to accomplish my long-awaited goals. I used the stay-at-home order period to study areas in my field that would allow my business to stand out (i.e., Creating YouTube Intros/Outros). I never considered myself adding Video Content Creation as a service until Spring 2020 when I created a YouTube Intro for my cousin. Ever since this moment, I received ample requests within the first three months from no promotion, which led to the launch of The Brand Flourisher, LLC in September 2020.

On the other hand, I experienced two layoffs and three deaths in my immediate family within a year which unmotivated me to post on my business page for an ENTIRE year. This was the best decision I could have done. It is important to take care of your mental health first before putting your all into others. Do what is best for you!
