Hidden Gems: Meet Yolanda Leaks of Mobile Accounting Solutions & Financial Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Leaks.

Yolanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Greetings! I began my journey in accounting while I was still in high school in the Atlanta Public School System. I took an accounting course and quickly fell in love with the problem-solving aspect—figuring out what went wrong and how to fix it. That experience laid the foundation for everything that followed.

After high school, I earned my B.B.A. in Accounting and later completed my MBA, further strengthening my understanding of both the technical and strategic sides of business. While, initially it took some time to secure a full-time role after graduating, I worked temporary assignments that exposed me to a wide range of accounting processes. Those roles were invaluable because they helped me understand how all the moving parts ultimately come together in financial statements.

Around 2001–2002, a coworker and I shared a vision of launching a mobile accounting business. We planned to operate independently while referring clients to one another—she would serve east of Atlanta, and I would focus on south of Atlanta. That vision is where Mobile Accounting Solutions was born.

Nearly 24 years later, I’m still here—serving, adapting, and doing the work I fell in love with all those years ago. Along the way, I discovered a passion for training and educating new entrepreneurs, helping them understand the dynamics of accounting and how to build businesses the right way—especially in a time when there’s so much both good and misleading information available.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A smooth road? No—it hasn’t been horrible, but it definitely hasn’t been smooth.

When I first started, phone books were still a primary form of advertising, so my marketing consisted of paying for a listing and hoping the right person would see it and call. At the same time, I was building a mobile business while working full-time, which limited my availability. That meant working after hours and on weekends and serving clients who were comfortable with that structure.

Being a mobile business also limited how many clients I could realistically service. Over time, those limitations pushed me to rethink how I delivered services. Years before the COVID-19 pandemic, I began transitioning parts of my practice to virtual services, which allowed me to better manage time, expand capacity, and continue serving clients effectively without sacrificing quality.

Another challenge was that clients often needed services I hadn’t previously encountered. That required research, preparation, and learning new areas quickly, which reinforced the importance of asking the right questions upfront.

While the road wasn’t always smooth, each challenge forced me to adapt, strengthen my processes, and operate more strategically.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Mobile Accounting Solutions began as a truly mobile service—long before mobile service became common. From the start, my goal was simple: meet people where they are and provide reliable, high-quality financial support. I’ve driven all over metro Atlanta providing accounting, tax preparation, and notary services to individuals and small businesses, always operating with integrity and a commitment to excellence.

I specialize in working with newer businesses, typically those under seven years old. I believe early-stage businesses need strong financial guidance just as much—if not more—than established companies. Helping clients build solid foundations early can prevent costly mistakes down the road and position them for long-term success.

What sets me apart is that client knowledge and understanding matter more to me than maximizing fees. I take pride in educating my clients and providing information they can apply immediately or implement when the timing is right. My goal is not just to do the work for them, but to help them understand the why behind the numbers so they can make confident, informed decisions.

In addition to my work with small businesses, I have a deep passion for serving nonprofits and churches. I’ve volunteered with several nonprofits and assisted churches with implementing financial systems and software. For a long time, I wrestled with how to serve churches more effectively, and it wasn’t until after my mother passed that God gave me the clarity and vision I had been seeking.

In March 2023, that vision became reality with the founding of ShowUp Ministry Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The foundation exists to train, pray for, and eventually provide grants to Bible-based churches and ministries. Churches serve their communities, and when the community hurts, the church hurts. ShowUp Ministry Foundation was created to help fill that gap and support churches so they can continue doing the work they’re called to do.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Collaboration is very important to me. I’m always open to partnering with CPAs, attorneys, and financial advisors who share a commitment to integrity and client education. My goal is to build a trusted network of professionals I can confidently refer clients to when they need specialized services beyond my scope.

In addition to professional partnerships, I also welcome collaboration through my nonprofit work. With ShowUp Ministry Foundation, I’m seeking individuals who have both ministry experience and business or financial expertise and who are willing to help train and guide churches and ministries toward stronger financial positions.

Whether through professional partnerships, training support, or shared expertise, I believe collaboration allows us to better serve people and organizations in meaningful and sustainable ways.
