Inspiring Conversations with Adriane Simpson of The LinkedIn Pros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriane Simpson.

Hi Adriane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started working in corporate America years ago and have worked for some notable companies as a program manager and operations consultant. As I continued to move up the corporate ranks, I often looked around conference rooms and the spaces I was in and rarely saw coworkers who looked like me in those settings. Initially, I wondered what was it about me that allowed me to secure the 6-figure salaries I was commanding that prevented my peers from doing the same. I would get (and still receive) daily emails and LinkedIn notes about job openings and opportunities and used to forward them to connections in the same field, but now can’t keep up with the number of requests I receive.

Throughout the course of my career, I have been laid off four different times. The first time it happened, I was just starting out in my career, and the economy was taking a turn. I wasn’t savvy enough to read the tea leaves, so wasn’t aware that I was about to be laid off and was thrown for a loop. The second time, I was ten+ years into my career and much wiser. I saw it coming and started preparing myself for the inevitable. By the third time, I had developed a strategy on what to do if I was laid off, and when it happened, I was able to activate my plan immediately. Where others were panicking, I was activating my network and looking for my next opportunity. Because I had done my process steps before, I knew it was repeatable. And if it was repeatable, I knew I could teach it to other people. Today, I teach professionals and entrepreneurs how to establish and develop their digital brand via LinkedIn.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many business owners, I have had the challenge of creating a great service that solves the problem that my [potential] clients have and not have enough people aware of what I provide. Some struggles have centered around getting enough people to be aware of my service before pivoting to something else. The entrepreneurial journey has not been without its challenges. Thankfully I am a part of a great business community of people with whom I can bounce ideas off and who hold me accountable for what I say I’m going to do.

I am the CEO and founder of The LinkedIn Pros, a LinkedIn strategy and 6-figure transition coaching agency for professionals and entrepreneurs. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being a servant leader is the most important characteristic to my success. In addition to the services that I provide to my clients, I also support non-profit organizations and those focusing on empowering new entrants to the workforce through interview preparation services.
