Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessio Lacco
Hi Alessio, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sure! My story starts in Naples, Italy — the birthplace of pizza — where I grew up surrounded by the smell of wood-fired ovens and the passion of true pizzaioli. I began learning the craft of Neapolitan pizza when I was just 17, eventually studying with AVPN (Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana), the gold standard in authentic pizza making. Pizza wasn’t just food for me — it was culture, tradition, and connection.
Years later, life brought me to the U.S., and I saw a big opportunity: people loved pizza, but few had experienced true Neapolitan pizza made with heart and respect for tradition. That’s when Atlanta Pizza Truck was born. I literally started from scratch — a truck, a dream, and a mission to bring real Italian pizza to the streets of Atlanta.
It wasn’t easy. There were language barriers, cultural gaps, and all the usual challenges of starting a business in a new country. But what kept me going was the community we built — people who tasted our pizza and said, “This reminds me of Italy” or “I’ve never had pizza like this before.”
Today, Atlanta Pizza Truck is more than a business — it’s a symbol of staying true to your roots while building something new. We’ve catered weddings, festivals, private events, and we’ve connected with thousands of people who now understand what real pizza is all about.
And honestly? This is just the beginning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road — and I think that’s true for most people trying to build something real from the ground up, especially in a new country.
When I started Atlanta Pizza Truck, I had the skills to make amazing pizza, but I had to learn everything else — how to run a business in the U.S., how to market to a new audience, how to deal with permits, events, suppliers, even weather! (Rain is not a friend of a pizza truck.)
One of the biggest challenges was being an immigrant entrepreneur. I had to build trust in a new community, in a new language, and with a very specific product that not everyone understood at first. Explaining the difference between Neapolitan pizza and what most people were used to wasn’t always easy. I had to educate people while winning them over, one pizza at a time.
Then there were the personal sacrifices — long hours, missing family back in Italy, and moments of doubt when things got slow or plans didn’t work out. But every struggle taught me something. It made me tougher, more creative, and more committed.
And I’m proud to say I never gave up. Because every time someone takes a bite and says “This is the best pizza I’ve had in my life,” I remember exactly why I started this journey.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Atlanta Pizza Truck isn’t just a food truck — it’s a piece of Naples on wheels. What we do is simple: we bring real, wood-fired Neapolitan pizza to the people of Atlanta and beyond. But what we stand for is much deeper — tradition, quality, and authenticity.
We specialize in true Neapolitan pizza, the kind that takes years to master and a lifetime to perfect. Our dough is naturally leavened for 48 hours, our tomatoes are San Marzano, and our flour and mozzarella come straight from Italy. We cook every pizza at 900°F in a real wood-fired oven inside our truck — the same way it’s done in Naples.
What sets us apart is that we’re not trying to reinvent pizza — we’re honoring it. We don’t cut corners, we don’t compromise. Every pizza is handmade, and every ingredient has a purpose. We want people to taste the tradition, the story, and the love in every bite.
Brand-wise, I’m proud of how far we’ve come and the reputation we’ve built. We’ve served at weddings, corporate events, festivals, private parties — and every time, people tell us it’s the best pizza they’ve had outside of Italy. That’s what we live for.
We’ve also expanded into catering and private chef experiences, where we create custom menus with pizza, pasta, and Italian specialties — bringing not just the food, but the full Italian experience. Soon, we’ll be launching even more projects, but everything we do will always stay rooted in authenticity and passion.
If there’s one thing I want readers to know about Atlanta Pizza Truck, it’s that we’re not just making pizza — we’re creating moments. Whether it’s your wedding, a family gathering, or your first time tasting real Neapolitan pizza, we want it to be unforgettable.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’d say the most important quality behind my success is perseverance — the ability to keep going no matter how hard it gets.
There were so many moments where it would’ve been easier to quit — when events got canceled last minute, when the oven broke down in the middle of service, when people didn’t understand what I was trying to do with Neapolitan pizza. But I never stopped. I believed in the product, I believed in the mission, and I knew that if I kept showing up with quality and heart, people would see it too.
On a deeper level, I think it’s also about respect — for the tradition of pizza, for the customers we serve, and for the team that helps make this dream possible. I never forget where I come from, and I never take success for granted.
It’s a mix of Italian passion and immigrant grit — a willingness to work hard, learn fast, and always push forward, even when the path isn’t clear.
That’s what built Atlanta Pizza Truck, and that’s what keeps it growing every day.
