Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandre Badila.
Hi Alexandre, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey began in Paris, France, where my passion for design and precision took root. I moved to the U.S. to earn a degree in Landscape Architecture and Site Engineering from Cornell University. After graduating, I settled in Atlanta, Georgia—a city I quickly grew to love for its vibrant greenery. I started my career at Precision Planning, gaining experience in design and site engineering. Later, as Director of Installation at Gibbs Landscape, I managed teams and oversaw planting and hardscape projects from start to finish. In 2019, I co-founded Calibre Landscape, and after five successful years, I launched Blue Fossil Group to pursue my vision solo. With over 25 years in the industry, I still approach every project with passion and dedication, guided by my motto: “Start clean, keep it clean, and finish clean.“ This is how I create lasting, beautiful outdoor spaces.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At age six, my siblings and I were sent to live in an orphanage, where I learned early what it meant to adapt, endure, and find strength in uncertainty. Shortly after, our father took us to live with relatives in the Congo. Life there was harsh. We often faced difficult living conditions and many days not knowing when or what we would eat. Those years taught me resilience, gratitude, and the power of hope.
A few years later, I returned to Paris to live with my father. My parents had separated when I was younger, and our home life was modest. My older brothers, sister, and I shared a single room in a small two-bedroom apartment. We didn’t have the comforts that many around us enjoyed, but we had determination—and that was enough to keep moving forward.
When I was about fifteen, my father moved us to the United States. We settled in a low-income neighborhood, and once again, I had to start from zero. I didn’t speak the language, and school was difficult. Kids made fun of me for my accent and my background, but I refused to let that define me. I focused on learning, improving, and proving to myself what I was capable of. Through hard work, I excelled in my classes and joined every extracurricular I could. Although I couldn’t become valedictorian because I hadn’t completed all four years in the U.S. school system, I proudly graduated as salutatorian.
From there, doors opened. I was accepted into several top universities, and thanks to the support of my step-grandfather, I chose Cornell University—where I earned my degree in Landscape Architecture and Site Engineering. That education changed the trajectory of my life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

My inspiration comes first and foremost from nature itself. I’ve always viewed the world a bit differently—shapes, textures, colors, and patterns speak to me in ways that naturally evolve into design ideas. That perspective is something I credit to my father’s side of the family. My father was a professional dancer in Paris, incredibly gifted and expressive, and I believe that same creative energy flows through my
