Inspiring Conversations with Alicia Williams-Bey of The Employment Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Williams-Bey.

Hi Alicia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Alicia Williams-Bey, born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and I am Founder and CEO of The Employment Academy! I have been studying and working in the Human Resources field since 2012 and  took on the title of Career Counselor in 2016 for a Non-Profit Organization that assist adults and adolescents with re-learning life skills after imprisonment, drug and alcohol Rehabilitation, Mental Health Rehabilitation and Homelessness.

The idea of The Employment Academy came by way of my mother. My mom and I were sitting on the porch one evening and as we spoke about several different topics, we ended up on the topic of my writing. My mom has always been a huge fan of my writing. She said to me “What about resume writing?” I have always updated my own resume as well as close friend’s and family and it’s apart of my 9-5, but I never considered making it apart of my own business. So after prayer, research, and a lot of business advice from my brother, Josh Henry, Founder of Apex Synergy Logistics. The Employment Academy was created September 1, 2019.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth ride? Absolutely not. But what is? There were times where I literally sat and watched my peers around me graduating before me landing high-paying jobs, starting businesses and I just could not figure out my purpose. I’ve questioned God yes. But I continued to pray and in those moments I’ve grown the most and I learned that things happen on God’s time not mine and I am so grateful! Since the birth of T.E.A 2 years ago, WE (both myself and the company) have grown so much! I am so excited to see what God has in store and how he will further utilize the skills he has given me to continue to help others.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Employment Academy?

Here at The Employment Academy, “Your dream Job becomes ours.” Our goal is to empower individuals and businesses with the best and latest tactics from a Human Resources Professional standpoint. My vision for T.E.A is for us to be one of the largest Black owned Outsourcing HR companies in the world. Assisting businesses with building a top tier culture within the workplace by developing effective strategies for Training and Development, Recruiting and Retention, Diversity and Inclusion, Employee Engagement and so much more!

I am most proud of the growth that The Employment Academy has had over these last two years. We went from resume and cover letter writing, to adding LinkedIn Optimization, business plan Development and Staffing and Recruiting assistance for businesses to our available services. We also released our Interview Ready Reference Guide last year and that has done extremely well. I truly appreciate all of the clients that have trusted The Employment Academy to assist them in their employment journey. When starting, i never thought that I would have received this kind of response but I Thank God for it. Having a job is one thing but getting the job you want is a different feeling and I love being a part of it!
