Hi Alma E, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Alma E. Perez Rafael, and I’ve been a licensed Master Cosmetologist since January 2017. My journey started with a year of hands-on experience working at a salon, where I built my skills and confidence. After that, I made the bold decision to open an at-home salon to better serve my clients. It wasn’t an easy step mainly because I feared failure and knew I still had so much to learn. Being a hairstylist is more than just talent; it’s a continuous learning process.
I ran my studio for a little over four years, and that chapter helped me grow both personally and professionally. In 2022, I took a leap of faith and opened Nage Beauty Salon, a space dedicated to creativity, quality, and care. After two amazing years and the support of a growing community, we expanded and opened Nage Barbershop in 2024.
Every step of the way has taught me something new, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come building not just a business, but a brand rooted in passion and service.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Being a business owner comes with many challenges especially when you’re juggling more than one business. There were moments of stress, doubt, and pressure, but I’ve been blessed with the support of my husband, who’s also my business partner, my family, and our amazing team.
One of the toughest moments was opening the barbershop. We faced financial obstacles, licensing delays, and the pressure of designing and building out the space from scratch. It took a lot of late nights, problem-solving, and patience. But with faith, perseverance, and the support around us, we finally opened Nage Barbershop to the public in June 2024 after six months of hard work.
