Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Usher
Hi Anna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Anna Usher, and I’m a serial entrepreneur, content creator, and influencer. I’ve always been passionate about helping others achieve their goals and empowering women, which led me to pursue a variety of business ventures.
In 2019, I discovered my love for spray tanning. I was drawn to how spray tanning boosted women’s confidence and offered a much safer alternative to tanning in the sun or using tanning beds (I mean, how are those things still legal?). This led me to launch my spray tanning franchise business, Sister Sunless, in 2020. I’m so proud to have sold 64 franchises since then! Helping other women start and grow their own businesses has been incredibly rewarding. They not only get to enjoy a flexible schedule and a great income but also the opportunity to connect with amazing clients.
In addition to my spray tanning business, I own an online clothing boutique called August Moon, which I originally started in 2018. However, when I found out I was expecting my second daughter (yes, I had Irish twins — two kids within a year!), I paused the boutique to focus on my growing family. In 2025, I decided it was time to relaunch August Moon, and I’m excited to be back in the fashion space. With years of experience in the wholesale fashion industry, including working at the Atlanta Apparel Mart and in NYC, I felt that relaunching August Moon was the perfect next step.
Around 2023, I started sharing my life on social media, focusing on everything from mom hacks to pregnancy tips and fashion finds. My TikTok started to take off, especially when I was pregnant with my third child. I shared my experiences as a third-time mom, offering advice on what to expect during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. My followers loved my honesty and openness, which led to even more growth.
After losing my dad unexpectedly to a heart attack a year ago, my approach to health and wellness changed drastically. I became passionate about researching ingredients and healthier alternatives for my family and myself. This shift has inspired much of my recent content, which now includes more health and fitness topics.
Through my social media presence, I’ve had the privilege of working with amazing brands like Luvs Diapers, Paw Patrol, Boohoo, Genexa, Burn Boot Camp, and many more. I’ve grown my TikTok following to over 107,000, and it’s been such a rewarding experience to connect with others and share my journey.
Beyond business and social media, my favorite role is being a mom to my three kids and wife to my high school sweetheart, Connor. In my downtime, I love date nights, spontaneous trips to our beach house in Miramar Beach, Florida, playing pickleball with friends, and watching my kids play sports. When I’m not working, you’ll find me at the playground with my kids, toes in the sand in Florida, or running errands.
I have big plans for the future, including growing all my businesses and potentially exploring a few new ventures on the horizon!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think with any new business venture, you have to go into it knowing there will be obstacles. It’s just part of the process. What really matters is how you approach those challenges and work through them. For me, I believe that “rejection is redirection”, and sometimes those setbacks can lead to even greater opportunities.
As a serial entrepreneur, I’ve faced plenty of bumps along the way. Whether it was navigating the early stages of launching my spray tanning franchise or relaunching August Moon after taking a break to focus on my family, I’ve encountered plenty of roadblocks. But I’ve learned to embrace those moments and use them as learning experiences. They push me to adapt, problem-solve, and keep moving forward.
This mindset has been just as important in my personal life as it has in business. As a mom of three, I’m always on the go, and we hardly ever stay inside the four walls of our home. I get out of the house daily, and while I might get some funny looks, I don’t let that stop me. Instead of letting intrusive thoughts or anxiety hold me back, I remind myself to focus on the question: “What’s the best that could happen?” rather than worrying about the worst-case scenario.
This outlook has been crucial both in my businesses and in my life as a mom and wife. It’s all about embracing challenges with an open mind, staying persistent, and not letting fear or doubt keep you from achieving your goals. Obstacles are inevitable, but it’s how we deal with them that shapes our success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I have the privilege of running two businesses that are very close to my heart — Sister Sunless and August Moon — alongside my personal brand as a content creator and influencer.
Sister Sunless is a spray tanning franchise business I launched in 2020, born out of my love for helping women feel confident and beautiful. I first got into spray tanning in 2019, drawn to its ability to give women a sun-kissed glow while providing a much safer alternative to sunbathing or tanning beds (which, let’s be honest, should be illegal!). At Sister Sunless, we go beyond just offering a service — we specialize in creating an empowering experience for women. Our mission is to make every woman who walks through our doors feel like the radiant goddess she is. We use naturally derived ingredients in our spray tans to ensure that women are not only glowing on the outside but are also taking care of their skin.
One of the things I’m most proud of with Sister Sunless is the growth we’ve experienced. We’ve sold 64 franchises across the U.S., and I absolutely love seeing how other women are able to grow their own successful businesses through our franchise opportunity. What sets us apart is that we don’t just provide a product; we offer a full experience that emphasizes self-love and confidence. We’re not just about looking good — we’re about feeling great and empowered.
August Moon is my online clothing boutique, which has been a journey of passion and growth. I started August Moon in 2018, after years of experience in the fashion industry, including working at the Atlanta Apparel Market and later moving to New York City to work in wholesale fashion. I have always had a passion for curating stylish and versatile pieces that make women feel confident and unique. After taking a pause to focus on my growing family (I had Irish twins within a year!), I relaunched August Moon in 2025.
Since opening my TikTok Shop, sales have been booming! It’s so exciting to see the clothes I’ve handpicked being shipped all across the country. It’s a thrilling experience to see the love for my boutique grow. I specialize in helping women feel stylish and comfortable with pieces that can be worn day-to-day, but also elevate their confidence when needed. What sets August Moon apart is the combination of high-quality, handpicked items with a personal touch that comes from my background in fashion and my love for helping women feel good about themselves.
Alongside these businesses, I have also built my personal brand as a content creator and influencer. On TikTok, I have over 107,000 followers and have garnered 5 million likes on my videos. My content focuses on empowering other mothers, especially around balancing family life with personal passions like fashion, fitness, and health. I’m open, authentic, and love sharing the highs and lows of motherhood with my community. Through my platform, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with well-known brands like Luvs Diapers, Parents Choice, Paw Patrol, Genexa, Boohoo, and many more. I work with these brands through paid ads, affiliate links, and commissions, helping them reach a wider audience while providing my followers with products I truly believe in.
What I want readers to know about my brand is that I am here to empower and inspire. Whether it’s through Sister Sunless, helping women take control of their beauty with confidence, or August Moon, where I offer stylish and carefully curated pieces that make every woman feel amazing, or through my personal content, where I share my journey as a mom, wife, and entrepreneur — everything I do is rooted in one simple goal: empowerment.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by an amazing and supportive group of people in my life — from friends and family to neighbors and previous colleagues. They’ve always been there for me through every business and life adventure I’ve embarked on. One of the key things I’ve learned is that you are who you surround yourself with. The people in your circle can have a huge impact on your mindset, success, and overall well-being. I’ve always made it a priority to surround myself with those who lift me up and support my goals, which has been essential as I’ve built my businesses.
When it comes to finding a mentor, I don’t have a traditional mentor, but I’ve been lucky enough to have many role models along the way. I think mentorship can come in many forms — sometimes it’s more about learning from others’ strengths and qualities than having one person guide you through everything. I love digging deep into the best qualities of the people I look up to and trying to emulate those in my own journey. Whether it’s their work ethic, their leadership style, or their mindset, I try to incorporate those traits into my own approach.
Personally, I thrive on a “figure it out” mindset. I rarely ask for help — it’s something I’d consider a weakness of mine, but I also learn best when I’m forced to figure things out on my own. There’s something deeply satisfying about tackling challenges head-on and finding solutions through my own efforts. While I appreciate the value of a mentor and the guidance they can offer, I’ve often found that I grow most when I take the initiative to solve problems independently.
That said, I also know the importance of networking and connecting with others in meaningful ways. Whether it’s through social media, local events, or even just having casual conversations with people in my industry, I believe that networking is about building authentic relationships. It’s less about asking for favors and more about exchanging ideas, supporting each other, and learning from one another.
So, while I don’t have a formal mentor, I have a wealth of role models whose journeys and qualities inspire me. And through continuous learning, whether it’s from them or through my own experiences, I strive to grow every day.
