Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Kim.
Hi Annie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I lived in a household with a diabetic father, so we were always cautious about what we were eating. When I was attending college in California, I was introduced to the world of Poke. It was delicious and had great nutrients with a variety of healthy choices in a single bowl. That was when I realized that I should bring this to Georgia, where my parents were living.
It took many years for me to open up a restaurant, but on February 17th in the year 2018 I was able to open up “Wow Poke N Juice” and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life. Even though COVID-19 hit the world without any announcements, I was able to pass through the pandemic with the help from many of the regular customers and I appreciate every help and support from each and every one of them. My goal from my restaurant is to serve quality food to the customer with the best customer service.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For most business owners, especially in restaurants, the biggest challenge that we all had to endure through was the COVID-19. It significantly changed everyone’s lives and I was hitting the bottom in revenue and gross profits. I know everything was not about the money, but keeping up a business during a time of pandemics was not the easiest challenge.
Luckily, I had many great customers that helped me through my hardship. Some customers will give enormous tips to my workers and they always came in with a smile and told me that I am doing great and that things will get better in the future. I won’t say that everything has ended yet, but I am still surviving and I feel very lucky and grateful for all of the assist that I have received from everyone.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I saw this article from another successful restaurant owner a long time ago. “If my body gets more tired, the customer gets more quality foods.” So I don’t do the bulk order for the vegetables we serve in restaurants. I go to the market every morning to serve as fresh and quality food as I can.
When customers said, “it’s the best and fresh poke I never had!” That makes me so excited. You can even imagine. I think that’s my goal and my work.
I am keeping and serving the best quality food to all my customers. Also getting communication with customers is very import to us. Some customer has allergies, gluten-free, and we also have lots of vegan option customers as well.
For that, staff has to be knowledgeable about the ingredients that we serve. Keep communicates with my staff is very important for me too. I’m grateful that my staff is following me on the lead.
