Inspiring Conversations with Ashley Reynolds of The Wholesale Wig Factory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Reynolds.

Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I didn’t grow up wanting to be a hairstylist. However, I did know that I wanted to be in the hair industry somehow. I loved changing my hair, doing my friend’s hair, watching videos for hours. So clearly, the love was there.

In our household, going to the hair salon was our jam because my mother knew she didn’t have any business trying to do our hair. That just wasn’t her calling. I remember this one particular trip to the salon as a teenager. There were so many conversations and laughter in the room all at once. It was like the room had given me one of those hugs only a loving grandmother could provide. It was then I knew I just had to be a part of this industry.

It all really started with a Styrofoam head in my best friend’s dorm room. I will never forget the first wig I made for myself in 2012! After I graduated from Florida A&M University with my degree in Business Administration, I went back home to Orlando, FL. Six months after moving back home, my mother passed away. Man. It was hard. I knew at that point life was too short not to chase my dreams! After I attended cosmetology school, I moved to Atlanta. I’ve always wanted to move to ATL, and I knew if I really wanted to figure out if this industry was for me, it was surely the place for it.

Fast forward 2 years later. At this time, I had been in Atlanta for two years, still working a 9-5 and making wigs on the side. The jobs were unfulfilling, and I was ready to get back into the hair industry full-time. So, I started DMing people to see if they needed an assistant or a wig maker. I was able to pick up my first wholesale wig client that way! And then another. And then another and continued to grow my wholesale wig clientele.

From the moment I was getting my hair done in that salon as a teenager, I knew I had a love for two things; the hair industry and business. I was never quite able to figure out how I was going to marry two until now. My goal now is to support stylists, salons, and hair businesses in my community. Just think of me as your wig and business bestie.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With any new business, there are struggles. Being in a very tailored niche can make it very difficult to reach your target audience in a very saturated market. Also, the hair and wig industry are a high-risk industry, and losses can occur at some point. In addition, like most small businesses obtaining capital can be challenging. It is no secret that many businesses never get the chance to flourish because they lack the resources. Being in high-risk industry makes it even trickier. Even with our struggles, we continue to move forward with a positive outlook, give 100% to our clients, and build a brand that empowers people and creates jobs.

We’ve been impressed with The Wholesale Wig Factory, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
