Inspiring Conversations with Ashley Taylor of YourMove Physical Therapy and Sports Performance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Taylor

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about sports and movement. I was a competitive swimmer and cross-country runner through high school, then ran D1 cross country and track at Western Carolina University, where I majored in Athletic Training. During that time, I worked with various sports teams—track, football, swimming, soccer, lacrosse, and more—which deepened my understanding of injury prevention and rehab.

After graduating in 2018, I pursued a Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of North Georgia, earning my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification along the way. I then completed an orthopedic residency in 2022 and worked as a physical therapist for several years in a typical outpatient orthopedic setting.

But I realized something was missing. Traditional PT clinics often rushed patients through the system, limited by insurance constraints. Multiple patients would be scheduled in the same hour, only to be handed off to aides or secondary staff to be led through exercises with little oversight. I wanted more for the patients. I wanted to provide one-on-one, athlete-centered care helping runners, weightlifters, and active individuals move better, recover faster, and perform at their best without the red tape from insurance.

That’s why I started YourMove. A cash-based, performance-focused physical therapy business. Now, I work directly with athletes and active individuals to keep them strong, injury-free, and doing what they love.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting and growing YourMove has come with its challenges, but so far, they have been fun and exciting challenges to learn and grow from.

One of the biggest struggles was transitioning from a traditional PT job to running my own cash-based practice. Leaving the security of a steady paycheck and stepping into the uncertainty of business ownership was intimidating and still is sometimes. I am having to learn the best ways to market my services, attract clients, and handle the financial side of things, which wasn’t something they teach in PT school. I’ve definitely learned that follow-ups, in-person visits, and building real relationships go a long way with marketing a cash-based practice!

Another challenge is educating people on the value of cash-based PT. Many athletes and active individuals are used to going through insurance-based clinics, where they might get rushed care, be handed off to secondary staff, or receive generic treatment plans. Helping people understand why one-on-one, performance-focused treatment is worth the investment has been key and that will forever be an ongoing conversation to have with potential new clients.

And, of course, balancing everything. From patient care to social media, networking, and business growth, it has been a learning process. But despite the struggles, it’s been incredibly rewarding to start building something that I believe in and that has already begun to help individuals recover faster and perform better.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
YourMove Physical Therapy & Sports Performance is a cash-based physical therapy and performance clinic specializing in helping runners, weightlifters, and active individuals recover from injuries, prevent future setbacks, and optimize their movement and strength. Unlike traditional insurance-based clinics, we focus on individualized, one-on-one care with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, ensuring that every session is tailored to the athlete’s specific needs, goals, and sport.

One of the biggest differences at YourMove is our approach to rehab and performance. Many physical therapy clinics operate on a high-volume model, where multiple patients are scheduled within the same hour and often handed off to aides or secondary staff for exercises. This system can limit an athlete’s recovery and progress. At YourMove, we do things differently. Every patient gets dedicated attention, a customized treatment plan, and a performance-driven approach that not only helps them recover but also strengthens their body to prevent future injuries.

Instead of being restricted by what insurance will cover, we are able to create the most effective treatment plan without unnecessary limitations. Our focus is to get athletes back to running, lifting, and competing at their best as quickly and safely as possible. It’s not just about rehab. It’s about building stronger, more resilient athletes who can continue to do what they love for years to come.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned and continue to learn is that growing my business often requires stepping outside my comfort zone. Throughout this journey, I’ve had to push myself to take risks, try new approaches, and be vulnerable in situations that are unfamiliar to me. As a Type A personality, I tend to be highly organized and prefer control and predictability, so taking risks can feel daunting. However, I’ve realized that embracing these risks is essential for my business growth. I’ve also learned that being open and being your true self, even when it feels uncomfortable, is key to building trust and creating meaningful impact. It’s a reminder that true growth happens when we embrace discomfort and challenge ourselves to become better.
