Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Wilson.
Hi Austin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL with my identical twin brother Andrew. Growing up my life revolved around sports which created a hardworking individual that wanted to strive for greatness. My parents instilled the importance of education as they were college graduates with one obtaining a doctorate and the other completing law school, in addition to my two older sisters who are college graduates as well. I knew I had big shoes to fill but I was determined to fill them.
I went on to receive my bachelor’s degree in resort and hospitality management from Florida Gulf Coast University. During this time I joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fratnerity Inc. and served as chapter president for two consecutive years. Shortly after graduating I furthered my education and obtained a master’s degree in higher education administration from Florida International University.
In 2019 I created “TwinSpeX” with my twin brother Andrew! The goal was to offer luxury sunglasses at affordable prices. We wanted to provide a different look for sunglasses that caught people’s attention. In 2020 I deiced to move to Atlanta with my fiancée with the drive to grow the business in a new environment. Andrew deiced to pursue a collegiate football coaching career and is currently creating great results for his team.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
TwinSpex has definitely been a challenge. There was a lot to juggling obligations with moving to different states, working full-time, going to school full-time, and other activities. Additionally, COVID-19 played a role in creating challenges as well. The biggest challenge was to keep sales up during the time when people were quarantined. We learned that it will take hard work, dedication, and consistency to continue growing the business, however, we were up for the challenge.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
TwinSpeX is not your average sunglass company. We strive to be different and offer sunglasses that are unique and stylish. Our goal is to create an eye-catching look for people to stand out in a crowd. What sets us apart from others is our luxury sunglasses are affordable. We provide a free cloth sunglass bag and wipe with every pair of sunglasses. No look is complete without the sunglasses bringing everything together. We want all of our customers to feel confident in their favorite pair of TwinSpeX!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
While maintaining this small business the most important lesson we have learned is to believe in our vision. We are our biggest competition. There were times when we thought we made the wrong decision in starting TwinSpeX. There were times when we wanted to quit. But, our passion for the business outweighs our doubts. We also have a great support system that has provided us with the motivation to grow our business!
