Today we’d like to introduce you to Breina McMichael.
Hi Breina , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey as a graphic designer five years ago at just 16 years old. At the time, I was a young hairstylist in high school creating my own logos and flyers to promote my business. That’s when I discovered a passion for graphic design. I taught myself how to use design tools, and as I got better, I began offering graphic design services on the side while still doing hair.
What began as a side hustle quickly turned into something I loved. By my senior year of high school, I knew I wanted to pursue graphic design more seriously. I applied to Alabama State University and chose to major in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design—turning what was once a hobby into my career path. While I had originally considered cosmetology school, God had bigger plans for me.
Now, I’m a full-time graphic designer and currently a junior at Alabama State University. I’ve had the opportunity to design for the ASU Athletic Department, the Student Government Association, ASU Royal Court, and many more campus organizations. On top of that, I founded Women of Faith, a Christian women’s empowerment group that now has over 50 active members—my sisters in Christ.
Graphic design and Women of Faith are both more than just businesses—they’re ministries and passions that reflect my creativity, leadership, and love for empowering others. Being able to pursue my education, walk in my purpose, and grow as an entrepreneur has truly been a blessing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy—trying to juggle school, work, and running two businesses can be a lot. There are days when I feel stretched thin, but I remind myself why I started. I’m passionate about what I do, and I’ve always had a strong work ethic. I don’t fold under pressure—I figure it out and keep going.
Being a full-time student while managing a graphic design business and leading Women of Faith takes real dedication. It’s early mornings, late nights, and sometimes sacrificing sleep or free time just to make sure everything gets done. But I’m built for it.
At the end of the day, I know I’m walking in my purpose. I’m not just doing this for me—I’m creating something bigger, and every obstacle I face is just part of the journey. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m even more excited about where I’m going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I run two brands that are both rooted in creativity, purpose, and empowerment.
First, I’m the founder and designer behind Bre The Graphic Queen, a graphic design business where I specialize in custom branding for individuals, businesses, and organizations. I offer services like logo design, flyers, business cards, social media graphics, website design, motion flyers, graduation designs, and so much more. What sets me apart is the way I bring visions to life—I don’t just design, I create visuals that tell a story, represent purpose, and leave a lasting impression. Every design is intentional, bold, and crafted with excellence.
Then there’s Women of Faith, a Christian women empowerment group I started at Alabama State University. We’re more than just a campus organization—we’re a sisterhood. We currently have over 50 members and focus on building community, growing in faith, and creating a safe space where women can be uplifted, supported, and spiritually fed. From Bible studies to networking events and community outreach, Women of Faith is all about real sisterhood and transformation.
What I’m most proud of is how both brands reflect who I am—creative, faith-driven, and committed to helping others grow. Whether I’m designing graphics for clients or hosting a women’s empowerment event, my heart is in everything I do.
I want people to know that when you work with me, you’re getting more than just a service—you’re getting passion, professionalism, and purpose. I’m building brands and building lives, and this is just the beginning.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My biggest advice for finding a mentor or networking is don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Closed mouths don’t get fed—and some of the best connections I’ve made came from simply introducing myself, reaching out on social media, or showing up to events with confidence.
What’s worked well for me is being genuine and intentional. I don’t approach people just to see what I can get from them—I come with a purpose, I support their work, and I let my passion speak for itself. That’s how real relationships are built.
I’ve also learned the importance of being in the right rooms. Whether it’s through campus events, leadership positions, or community involvement, I try to stay in spaces that align with my goals. And sometimes, your mentor isn’t someone who’s “famous”—it could be someone right around you who inspires you, holds you accountable, and helps you grow.
Lastly, keep showing up as your authentic self. People are drawn to real energy. When you walk in your purpose, the right people will notice—and often, those are the people who will want to help you go even further.
