Inspiring Conversations with Britney Coleman of Norman & Associates Real Estate Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Coleman.

Hi Britney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a little girl, I always loved to watch HGTV shows about real estate. From Trading Spaces to House Hunters, I would imagine how I would decorate my first home. I moved to Atlanta in 2008 to attend Spelman College and study Economics. During my matriculation, I grew closer to the analytical side of real estate while focusing on the topic through my studies. Fast forward to 2016, I attempted to go through a self-paced real estate course, but let me tell you first hand that was a bad idea. There is so much information to obtain in order to gain your license I knew I would have to change my strategy. Simultaneously, I was working at Delta Air Lines Inc., and I decided to pause my sights on my real estate career to focus on my career at Delta and attempted to transition to a new department. In short, I moved to a few different departments from 2016-2020 and I was still not satisfied where I was in life. In 2018, I had my first child and struggled with child-care accommodating my unusual work schedule, I knew it was time for me to make a change but I had to wait for the right time to make a move. I had to  ensure when I made a move, it had to make sense and be the right time. In 2020, the pandemic changed the world and fortunately, it was the best thing to happen to me. I was able to retire at 30 years old from Delta, and focus on my goal to be an entrepreneur as a REALTOR. I obtained my license in August of 2020, and hit the ground running with a laser focus on how to create the best experience obtaining homeownership for those who have always sought after what is known as  “The American Dream”. Now in 2022, I am a part of the largest minority-owned luxury real estate brokerage in the Southeast. Now with two sons, My “Why” are my children. I make sure to show up every day and work at my fullest potential not just for my clients, but for them. To show my children that if you focus on your goals, and strategize properly, then you can do whatever you dream and to show that anyone can succeed in entrepreneurship. I want to create generational wealth and multiple opportunities for my sons as they continue to grow.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Far from it! Some of the struggles along the way during my real estate career would be adjusting to a new career, finding self-motivation every day to show up in my business, and creating a work-life balance. Many people think that going into entrepreneurship is easy, but it is completely the opposite. When you work for a corporation, you have a certain time to show up and focus on the task at hand. Once it’s time to clock out, then you can focus on your personal life. However, as an entrepreneur, you wear all the hats and you are working 25/8, but it is rewarding to be able to be there for my kids when they need me. Transitioning to a new career, and letting everyone know that I am Realtor and for them to take me seriously was a struggle as well because many people in my sphere, they didn’t know my educational background and how much time I have truly spent on getting to this point. Being a wife, mom of two under 5 years old, and business owner creates a very busy schedule, but it challenges me to be a better person all around and I would not change it for the world. I am truly blessed.
