Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Russo Turner
Hi Cecilia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Cecilia Russo Turner, and my entrepreneurial journey began in the heart of Savannah, my hometown and a city steeped in history. I’ve always been drawn to the power of community, the magic of human connection, and the transformative force of giving back. That’s why, in 2008, I founded Cecilia Russo Marketing, LLC.
For over three decades, I’ve been professionally immersed in the world of philanthropy, raising millions of dollars for countless nonprofits and civic causes with incredible organizations like the Tour de Georgia, Susan G. Komen Savannah Race for the Cure®, the American Red Cross, and many more. I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, from budding entrepreneurs to established corporations, and from local nonprofits to national organizations. Each interaction has been a unique opportunity to contribute my expertise in reputation management, strategic consulting, and fundraising. Each one has presented unique challenges and opportunities, and I’ve relished the chance to contribute my expertise to their success.
One of my proudest accomplishments is leading the campaign for the World War II Memorial, “A World Apart.” It was a monumental effort that brought our community together to honor the sacrifices of our brave veterans. Together, we raised millions of dollars and created a lasting tribute that stands as a testament to their service.
My commitment to giving back has been recognized with several honors, including Volunteer of the Year by Junior Achievement of Savannah and Entrepreneur of the Year by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce. But the true reward lies in the impact we make, the lives we touch, and the positive change we inspire.
As the 2021-2022 Campaign Chair for the United Way of the Coastal Empire, I had the honor of leading a record-breaking fundraising effort that benefited over 206,000 people. It’s a testament to the generosity of our community and the power of collective action. Today, I continue to serve on the boards of Savannah Technical College Foundation, Rotary Club of Savannah, and United Way of the Coastal Empire. I’m also a proud alumna of St. Vincent’s Academy and the University of Georgia.
My life is enriched by my family, especially my sweet husband, close siblings and amazing grandchil
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up in Savannah, I was immersed in a vibrant Italian family culture, imbued in tradition and hard work. My family instilled in me a strong work ethic and a deep sense of community. After graduating from the University of Georgia, I was eager to combine my education with my passion for storytelling and business. One month after graduation, I landed my first “real job,” and it was the beginning of a 30-year journey filled with invaluable experiences and meaningful connections. I learned the ropes, honed my skills, and built a solid foundation for my future.
In 2008, I took a leap of faith and left the security of my corporate job to take on the publicity and event planning for the Tour de Georgia. It was a daunting task, but I was determined to make it a success. With a mix of determination, prayer, and a lot of hard work, I successfully executed the event, and it became a pivotal moment in my career. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of providing strategic communications, marketing, fundraising, and public relations counsel to a diverse range of clients across the Southeast. From small businesses to large corporations, and from local nonprofits to national organizations, I’ve had the opportunity to make a positive impact on countless communities.
While the path hasn’t always been easy, the challenges I’ve faced have only strengthened my resolve. I’ve learned to embrace uncertainty, adapt to change, and persevere through adversity. It’s through these experiences that I’ve grown as a professional and as an individual. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to serve my community and make a difference. I believe that by sharing my story, I can inspire others to pursue their passions and make a positive impact on the world.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cecilia Russo Marketing?

We’ve helped countless nonprofits raise millions of dollars to support their important work, empowered small business owners to compete with larger corporations, and assisted government agencies in communicating effectively with the public.
We’re deeply committed to giving back to the community. We’ve supported numerous local initiatives, including mentoring young entrepreneurs, volunteering at charitable organizations, and donating to local causes.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
While luck may play a small role in success, I firmly believe that it’s grit, perseverance, and a strong work ethic that truly drive achievement. In my own journey, I’ve encountered countless challenges, but it’s been my unwavering determination and the support of others that have kept me moving forward.
To celebrate our 15th anniversary, we launched an Entrepreneur Grant program, awarding $15,000 to three innovative Georgia businesses. Out of over 630 applications, we selected three extraordinary entrepreneurs who embody the spirit of innovation and resilience. We’re not just giving them money; we’re providing mentorship and support to help them turn their dreams into reality.
To make a bigger impact, we timed the announcement with National Entrepreneurship Month. We were fortunate to have the support of Governor Brian Kemp, who endorsed our program and joined us for a special ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol. It was an incredible honor to be recognized by such a respected leader and to have the opportunity to connect with other influential figures like Speaker of the House Jon Burns and Representative Scott Hilton. Seeing the excitement and gratitude of the grant recipients filled my heart with joy. It’s a reminder of the power of giving back and the impact we can make on others’ lives.
By sharing our success and resources, we hope to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. It’s my mission to create a ripple effect, where each person we help goes on to help others. I believe that true success is not just about personal gain, but about making a positive difference in the world. By supporting these talented entrepreneurs, we’re investing in the future of Georgia and beyond.
