Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanda Womack.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I actually started the business after traveling all around the county and abroad and finding myself hosting an array of clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories in my closet that I had not worn or that I had worn only once. In 2017, I started a mobile resell and consignment boutique to sell my items as well as style and provide beauty services to women in and around Atlanta along with my daughter @bsimonebeauty; a local makeup artist. At that time, we served women face-to-face in their homes, at the office or at pop-up parties.
When Covid-19 hit, I found myself needing a new way to reach my customers. I researched the online fashion resell market and the companies that were well established in the industry and found that online fashion resell platforms were booming and positioned to grow over the next five years. I decided to become a part of this space and be the first African American woman to head a major online fashion resell brand. By combining my love for fashion, my entrepreneurial spirit and the knowledge I had gained about the industry, Thesuitexchange, a peer-to-peer, multi-vendor e-commerce platform was born to give users a solution to buying and selling new or lightly worn apparel. We target resell enthusiasts, fashion icons and influencers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle I had was finding a developer to create the platform that I had envisioned. Creating a multi-vendor platform, like Thesuitexchange, has so many moving parts. Unfortunately, it was difficult to find a developer that had the experience to program and develop the platform. Unfortunately, I ended up firing two different developers before I was able to find a company that understood my needs and vision. Another challenge, I’m sure any entrepreneur who is still working a 9-5 will attest to is that being an entrepreneur and working is not so glamorous in the beginning. It takes hard work, dedication, determination and a lot of alone time.
As you know, we’re big fans of Thesuitexchange. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a woman who loves to shop and every woman I know, like me, cleans out her closet only to make room for more…Of Course! Thesuitexchange offers women (and men) who have an affinity for shopping a solution to cleaning out their closets, getting rid of some things and of course replacing those items with more. We make it easy for our users to sell contemporary and luxury items by opening an account and listing their items. We offer reduced rate shipping through our shipping partner. Our vendors will appreciate that our payout system allows them to get paid every Friday!
Not only does Thesuitexchange offers our users a solution to buying and selling at discount prices but also provides the opportunity to contribute to the planet’s sustainability by keeping fabrics out of landfills and instead moving them in a circular motion.
Reselling and buying apparel is a great work-from-home business for individuals who want to make some extra cash by selling things they already own or sourced from all over the world.
I look forward to all the new possibilities in 2022 and beyond by building local and national relationships and strategic partnerships, with vendors who already love the fashion resell market as well as anyone including celebrities who are new to reselling and repurposing their contemporary or high-end celebrity or influencer fashion.
During the month of March, in celebration of Women’s History Month, we are offering anyone who opens an account 2 commission free months. Visit our How to Page to get started.
How do you define success?
Success is being able to set your targets or goals to where you want them to be with the ability to reach them by celebrating and learning from the tests, trials, tribulations and triumphs it takes to get there.
